Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Anthony Pettis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Liam Fitz! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pettis shoots in looking for a takedown. Fitz tries to sprawl out of it but Pettis keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fitz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Fitz doesn't succeed with the takedown and Pettis counters with a solid body kick. Pettis misses with a head kick.
Pettis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Fitz shoots in looking for a takedown but Pettis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Fitz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Anthony Pettis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Liam Fitz. Pettis needs to keep his hands up - Fitz had a free shot at his head there. Fitz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Pettis working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Fitz looking for a sweep. Not yet Fitz, not yet. Pettis connects with a couple of short punches. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Pettis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Pettis decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Fitz, up you get! Pettis stuffs the takedown attempt from Fitz. Fitz gets slowly back to his feet. Pettis shoots in and drives through. Fitz sprawls well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pettis is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Pettis throws a sloppy head kick and Fitz counters by clinching up. Pettis misses with a punch on the inside.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Fitz. Fitz stalling the fight.
Pettis drops down looking for an ankle pick but Fitz pulls his leg out and moves away.
Anthony Pettis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fitz misses with a combination
and Pettis counters with a takedown into side control. Fitz looks gassed! Pettis has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Fitz is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Pettis yanks on the arm and Fitz is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Pettis.
