PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Woo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Yahyaei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yahyaei has chosen David Hydro - Let me tell you bout as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Woo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, David Yahyaei!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woo shoots in for a takedown but Yahyaei shows good takedown defense.
Woo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Yahyaei sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Yahyaei scores with a nice body kick.
Woo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Woo shoots in but Yahyaei avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny Woo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Yahyaei scores with a nice body kick.

Woo has closed the distance and engaged Yahyaei in a clinch.

Yahyaei escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Yahyaei ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Yahyaei is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Woo's half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Yahyaei wants to take a breather but Woo is having none of it.

Yahyaei is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Woo moves into full guard.
Woo on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Woo tries to get out of the position.
Yahyaei lands a couple of digs.
Woo manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Yahyaei is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Woo controlling from the full mount.
Woo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Woo lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Woo scoring with strikes but Yahyaei is staying in there.

Woo swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Yahyaei is now in Woo's guard. A big mistake from Woo there, giving up the dominant position!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Yahyaei wanted to stand there but Woo had control of the position.
Woo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Woo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Yahyaei is aware though and is defending well.

Woo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yahyaei gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Woo is breathing heavily.
Woo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yahyaei is one step ahead there.
Woo seems keen to control Yahyaei's posture.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yahyaei postures up in Woo's guard and throws a big left but Woo blocks it.
Yahyaei must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Woo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yahyaei defends it easily.
Woo managing to control the position.
Woo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yahyaei is one step ahead there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Woo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Johnny Woo will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Yahyaei throws a right and a left that Woo avoids nicely.

Woo gets a takedown into half guard.
Nice strikes from Woo there.
Yahyaei is looking to improve his position.
Yahyaei lands a couple of sideways elbows.
Woo is nestled in close to Yahyaei, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Yahyaei really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Woo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Woo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Woo decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Yahyaei tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Woo manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Yahyaei throws a right and a left that Woo avoids nicely.
Yahyaei throws a head kick but Woo moves out of range.
Woo ducks right into an uppercut from Yahyaei.
Woo lands a slapping body shot.
Nice sprawl there from Yahyaei as Woo shoots in.
Woo dives in and grabs Yahyaei's left leg, looking for a takedown. Yahyaei pushes down on Woo's head and hops out.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Woo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Woo lands in his opponent's guard.
Yahyaei manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Woo manages to get himself to full guard.
Yahyaei trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Woo throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Woo controls Yahyaei momentarily but Yahyaei frees himself.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Woo has Yahyaei pulled in close to control his posture.

Woo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yahyaei gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Woo looking for a sweep. Not yet Woo, not yet.

Yahyaei working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Woo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Yahyaei wants to stand but Woo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Woo is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Woo is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Woo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Yahyaei is one step ahead there.
Yahyaei stops Woo from standing up.
Yahyaei wants to stand but Woo has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Yahyaei trying to control the position from guard on top but Woo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Woo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Woo shoots in but no luck this time.
Woo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Yahyaei circles away.
Yahyaei throws the kick towards the body but Woo avoids it.
Yahyaei tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Woo circles away from the clinch attempt.
Woo dives in and grabs Yahyaei's left leg, looking for a takedown. Yahyaei pushes down on Woo's head and hops out.

Yahyaei fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Yahyaei leaves Woo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Yahyaei or perhaps it was just good defense by Woo which made him look bad.

Yahyaei throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Woo was covering up waiting for the punch and Yahyaei finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Woo is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Yahyaei preventing the sweep.
Johnny Woo overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Woo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Woo is trying to work for a kimura but Yahyaei is defending well.
Yahyaei is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Yahyaei throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Yahyaei wants to get back to full guard.
Yahyaei is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Woo stops Yahyaei from getting back to his feet.
Woo frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Woo mounts Yahyaei! Really nice guard pass there!

Woo jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Yahyaei manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Woo decides to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Woo throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Yahyaei tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Woo is in Yahyaei's guard.
Woo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Woo drops back looking for a leg! Yahyaei is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Yahyaei manages to kick Woo off! Woo jumps back into Yahyaei's guard.
Woo stops Yahyaei from standing up.

Yahyaei isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Woo stacks Yahyaei on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Woo!
Woo controls the position from side control.
Johnny Woo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yahyaei tries to bench press Woo off him but Woo keeps the position.
David Yahyaei has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The referee asks Woo politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Woo prefers to stall for the moment though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Woo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Yahyaei tries to strike from the bottom but misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnny Woo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Woo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
