PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Unknown Fighter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chie Sung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Unknown Fighter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Chie Sung!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sung gets a takedown into half guard.
Sung is thwarting Fighter's attempts to control the position.
Fighter is positioning himself well to prevent Sung advancing to mount.
Fighter trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Sung controlling his opponent.
Fighter is desperately trying to improve his position but Sung has a good base and remains in mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter tries to hold on but Sung pushes him away.

Unknown Fighter has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Sung is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Fighter's half guard.
Fighter is trying to maintain the position but Sung is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fighter is doing well to control the position and prevent Sung from advancing to side control.
Fighter really is a fat lump.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Fighter is trying to control but can't.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Unknown Fighter.

Sung scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sung content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Fighter is trying to control Sung's posture but Sung avoids it.
Fighter is breathing heavily.

Fighter is looking to regain half guard here but Sung keeps moving and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fighter can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fighter is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Fighter is trying to control Sung's posture but Sung avoids it.
Sung controlling from side mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Sung has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Fighter avoids the head kick by Sung.
Fighter tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sung swivels and escapes.

Sung decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Fighter trying to control from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fighter looking for submissions off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chie Sung dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Sung throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Fighter was covering up waiting for the punch and Sung finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Fighter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sung gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Fighter controls Sung momentarily but Sung frees himself.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sung is stalling in the full guard.
Fighter controls Sung momentarily but Sung frees himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Fighter is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sung is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Unknown Fighter has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Sung gets a double leg takedown into Fighter's guard.
Fighter is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sung sitting in guard here, content to control.
Sung postures up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Sung seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Unknown Fighter wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Fighter gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sung to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Fighter had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sung defends it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sung postures up.
Fighter looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Sung stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fighter swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fighter looking for a guillotine here but Sung defends easily.
Fighter is trying to control the position but Sung postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Fighter has his foot on Sung's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sung works his way back into a safe position though.
Fighter not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Fighter is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sung sitting in guard here, content to control.
Sung must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Fighter working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Sung has passed into half guard!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sung takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chie Sung showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Sung drives through with a takedown into Fighter's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Fighter looking for a triangle here. Sung is fighting it but it looks tight! Fighter pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Sung is tapping out - this one is all over!
