PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nick Fury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenny Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Powers has chosen I am a real American as his entrance music. Kenny Powers will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nick Fury!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenny Powers!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powers fails with an attempt to clinch.

Fury shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Fury showed some decent athleticism there.
Fury wants to control but Powers is keeping him busy.
Powers keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Fury is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Powers is just riding it out for now. Fury eventually gives up the hold.
Powers is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Powers is refusing to be controlled, as Fury sits in half guard.

Fury trying to mount his opponent but Powers defends it.

Fury content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Fury has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Nick Fury has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Fury throws a jab but it's blocked by Powers.
Fury with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
The fight stays on the outside here - Powers looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Fury thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Fury has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fury wants to pass to mount but Powers is defending the position.

Fury is taking a breather. Powers says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Powers is controlling Fury's position as best he can from this difficult position.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Nick Fury just wasn't active enough.
Powers is looking to clinch but Fury is avoiding it.
Fury throws a right hand that Powers ducks under and follows up with a left that Powers also avoids with ease.
Powers tries to clinch but Fury is having none of it.

Fury closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Powers quickly recovers to half guard.
Powers is staying active underneath Fury, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Fury throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Fury tries to pass to full mount but Powers defends it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fury wants to take a breather but Powers is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Powers closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Powers pulls guard.
Fury in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Fury throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fury trying to control but Powers is working from the bottom.
Fury looking to sit in guard and control but Powers gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Fury wants to sweep here but Powers controlling him for the moment.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Powers stops Fury from standing up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Nick Fury.
Powers slips a jab and a cross from Fury.
Fury shoots for a takedown but Powers saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Fury keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Powers.
Fury leaves Powers with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Fury closes this distance looking for a takedown but Powers circles away.

Fury manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Powers on his heels. He'll look to pass Powers's guard now, I'm sure.

Fury drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Powers manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Fury has Powers in his guard.

Fury has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Powers can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Powers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fury has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Powers has managed to get both his arms back between Fury's legs - danger averted.

Fury looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Powers passes into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fury regains half guard.
Fury keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Fury is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Fury dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Powers shoots in and drives through. Fury sprawls well.

Fury fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Powers, pushing him back against the cage.
Powers misses with a knee strike.
Fury can't find room to land a body shot as Powers controls the action.
Powers throws a knee to the head but misses.
Powers scores with a knee to the head.
Fury is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Powers is keeping busy.

Fury breaks from the clinch.

Fury gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Powers landing knees to the head.
Powers tries to land a knee to the head but Fury blocks with his arms.
Fury tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Fury can't find room to land a body shot as Powers controls the action.
Powers stops a takedown attempt from Fury.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Powers misses with an elbow over the top.
Fury is trying to drag Powers to the mat but Powers just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Powers manages to break the clinch.
Powers doesn't manage to clinch there - Fury circles away.

Fury has closed the distance and engaged Powers in a clinch.
Fury tries to pull guard but Powers holds him up against the cage and eventually Fury drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Fury. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Powers manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Fury wants to control from the top but Powers keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fury looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nick Fury overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nick Fury wasn't doing enough on the ground.

It looks like Kenny Powers has been cut.

Fury dives in and scores a takedown into Powers's guard.
Powers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fury. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fury wants to pass the guard but Powers is keeping the position.
Fury trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Fury is pushing down on Powers's leg trying to pass to half guard. Powers is fighting to maintain full guard but Fury has managed to sneak the leg through.

Powers takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Fury is really struggling to control Powers but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Kenny Powers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The ref stands the fighters back up because Nick Fury just wasn't active enough.

Powers gets tackled into the cage by Fury. Fury maintains the clinch.
Powers misses with a knee strike.
Powers tries to land a knee to the head but Fury blocks with his arms.
Fury wants to break free but Powers has control.
Fury pushes Powers back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Powers comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Powers gets underhooks to prevent Fury's takedown attempt.
Fury changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Powers fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Fury gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Well Fury has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
