Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Batalha Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jean Liddell! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Luis Engracia and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Liddell has taken the fight to the clinch.
Liddell prevents the takedown attempt.
Liddell stops a takedown attempt from Silva.
Liddell breaks from the clinch.
Liddell lands with a kick to the temple. Silva shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Liddell tries to clinch up. Silva shoots for a double leg takedown but Liddell sprawls well. He's pushed Silva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rodrigo Batalha Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him. Liddell has his takedown stuffed and Silva counters with a nice double leg into guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Liddell can do anything to dispel that myth. Liddell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Silva controls the pace. Silva could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Liddell looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Liddell not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Liddell looking for a sweep. Not yet Liddell, not yet. Liddell throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Liddell is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Liddell wants to control but Silva passes easily into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Liddell wants to improve his position but Silva is controlling well.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Silva with a poor takedown and Liddell counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Silva is lucky that one didn't land flush. Silva is breathing heavily. Silva looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Liddell tries to clinch up and Silva counters with a one-two to the body. Liddell clinches up against the cage. Liddell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Liddell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Silva swivels and escapes. Silva takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Liddell is looking to clinch but Silva is avoiding it.
Nice takedown defense from Liddell. No joy for Silva on that attempt. Silva throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Liddell's waist but Liddell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Silva off to one side. Liddell looks for a takedown but Silva sprawls well. Liddell closes the distance but Silva moves to the side and Silva counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Liddell! Silva is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Liddell is surviving well by controlling Silva's body position as best he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Liddell is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Liddell flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Silva anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Liddell and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Silva slips an arm under Liddell chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Silva has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Silva is squeezing on Liddell like an anaconda would it's prey. Liddell fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rodrigo Batalha Silva!
