PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Wk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Costa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wk comes into the arena with I Want Your Face- Andrew WK blaring out of the sound system. Costa is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by 26 Bass by Roni Size. Andrew Wk had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andrew Wk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carlos Costa!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Gregory Folan and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Costa.
Wk throws a leg kick but Costa sees it coming and moves out of range.

Wk dives in and scores a takedown into Costa's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Costa is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Wk defends well.
Wk trying to control but Costa is working from the bottom.
Wk engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Costa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Wk has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Costa is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Wk trying to control the position from guard on top but Costa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Wk throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Costa works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Costa working for a triangle but Wk defends it easily.
Wk looking to pass the guard.

Wk drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Costa dives on top into guard.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Costa wants to pass the guard but Wk is keeping the position.

Wk working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Costa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Costa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Wk looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Costa passes into half guard.

Wk looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Costa is looking to advance position but Wk won't allow it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Costa lands with a punch from half guard.

Costa seems to be looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wk has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Costa is working away from the top position though.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Costa connects with a nice short shot to Wk's temple.
Wk is looking for a sweep. Costa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Wk looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Wk looking for submissions off his back.
Costa is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Costa works his way into side control.
Costa is working Wk over with some ground and pound from side control.
Wk wants to control but Costa postures up.
Wk is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Costa's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Costa scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

Wk is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Costa pulls his head out easily.
Costa not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Costa works his foot free and advances to mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wk is trying to escape the mount.
Costa fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Costa lands a nice shot to the head.
The referee warns Wk that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Costa looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Costa landing strikes from the mount.
Costa lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Wk hang on?


Wk is rocked!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Costa loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Wk scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Costa land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Costa stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Carlos Costa!
