Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andrei Sobchak! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alex Knight! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sobchak takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Knight closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sobchak did well to prevent Knight getting side control. Sobchak keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Sobchak knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Knight on the ground. Knight controlling the action here. Knight's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Alex Knight has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Knight tries a head kick but it misses.
Knight tries to keep at a distance but Sobchak has taken the fight into the clinch. Knight landing knees to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Knight pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage. Sobchak pulls Knight into guard.
Sobchak is breathing heavily. Knight preventing the sweep. Knight has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Knight is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Sobchak is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Knight sitting in guard here, content to control. That's two minutes gone in the round. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Knight looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sobchak with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sobchak looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Sobchak takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Sobchak fails with the takedown and Knight makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Knight closes the distance and pushes Sobchak back into the cage. Knight displaying some good clinch control by pressing Sobchak up against the cage. Knight with a knee to the head.

The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Knight tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Sobchak avoids it.

Knight closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sobchak to the mat! Sobchak manages to get full guard. Knight trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Knight not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Knight is pushing down on Sobchak's leg trying to pass to half guard. Sobchak is fighting to maintain full guard but Knight has managed to sneak the leg through. Knight content to control rather than advance. OK we're going to have a standup here. Alex Knight hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Knight throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Knight scores with a head kick.
Sobchak takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Andrei Sobchak is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Knight lands a leg kick that knocks Sobchak off balance momentarily. Knight connects with a nice looking jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Knight. Sobchak shrugs it off though. Knight lands with a thumping leg kick.

Knight closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Sobchak quickly recovers to half guard. Knight looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Knight prevents Sobchak from standing back up.
Sobchak is trying to get back to full guard. Knight is taking a breather. Sobchak says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sobchak trying to hold on to Knight's head to control him but Knight postures up.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Alex Knight. Sobchak shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Knight as he avoids it easily. Knight drives through with a takedown into guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Knight stands up over Sobchak, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Knight looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Alex Knight has got the better of the ground game so far. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sobchak has an active guard here but Knight has managed to pass into half guard.

Sobchak fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Knight, pushing him back against the cage. Knight is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Knight working Sobchak over with knees to the body. Sobchak is trying to push Knight away but Knight has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Knight lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Knight tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Knight lands a good knee to the midsection. Sobchak won't want to take too many of those. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Knight misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Sobchak.
Sobchak pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Knight closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Knight lands in his opponent's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Knight controls the pace of the fight for a moment. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Knight advances to half guard. Knight content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Sobchak uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Knight. A solid body kick from Knight. Knight keeps Sobchak at a distance using the push kick. Knight is looking to land body kicks. Sobchak shoots for a takedown but Knight saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sobchak walks forward, straight into a front kick from Knight. Sobchak closes the distance and pushes Knight back into the cage. Knight putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Sobchak in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body. Knight utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body. That's four minutes gone in the round. Sobchak tries to land a knee to the head but Knight blocks with his arms.
Sobchak is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Knight is keeping busy. Sobchak blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Sobchak wants to get back to striking at distance but Knight won't allow it.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrei Sobchak. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sobchak ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sobchak no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Sobchak is looking for a triangle here but Knight uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

And that's the end of the fight! Alex Knight comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Knight has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
