Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alexandre Carlitos ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmy Kimmel! The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kimmel gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Kimmel cracks Carlitos with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Carlitos fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kimmel avoids it really well and circles away. Carlitos ducks under a wild hook from Kimmel. Carlitos slips a jab and a cross from Kimmel.
Kimmel takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Kimmel stalks Carlitos and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Carlitos 's face. Carlitos staggers backwards, shaken. Carlitos connects with the punch. Carlitos drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Carlitos throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kimmel works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Carlitos drops back looking for a leg! Kimmel is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kimmel manages to kick Carlitos off! Carlitos jumps back into Kimmel's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carlitos throwing strikes but missing. Carlitos drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Carlitos jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Carlitos pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kimmel is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Carlitos thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Carlitos is looking to work some ground and pound but Kimmel has wrist control. Kimmel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carlitos . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Carlitos throwing strikes from guard but Kimmel blocks nicely. Carlitos with a flurry of punches that miss. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kimmel can do anything to dispel that myth. Carlitos throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kimmel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carlitos advances position into side control! Carlitos looks up at the clock and then as Kimmel takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Carlitos smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Carlitos is chipping away with strikes.
Carlitos is working to tighten is grip on Kimmel's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Kimmel has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Carlitos is really squeezing tight and eventually Kimmel passes out! Carlitos breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
