The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice leg kick lands there from Ople.
Ople steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Lips.

Blas Ople seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lips looks to score with a jab to the body but Ople is just out of range.

Lips does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

A nice inside leg kick there by Ople. That's going to slow Lips down.
A looping hook to the body misses from Lips. Ople does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lips closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ople did well to prevent Lips getting side control.

Lips takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Ople won't allow Lips to pass to mount.
Lips throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ople trying to get back to full guard but Lips takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Ople really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lips. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lips is in the full mount, landing strikes.
That has opened up Blas Ople's cut even more.

A determined Thunder Lips didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
