The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva leaves Ryan Junior with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Ryan Junior fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Silva, pushing him back against the cage. Silva has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Ryan Junior drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's one minute gone in the round. Silva fails with a takedown attempt. Ryan Junior shoots in but Silva avoids the takedown attempt easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Ryan Junior. That's going to take a lot out of him. Silva tries to clinch but fails miserably and Ryan Junior counters by moving into the clinch. Ryan Junior breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Marcilo Silva wasn't active enough on the ground. Silva wants to clinch. Ryan Junior swings for the body but Silva moves out of range.
Ryan Junior shoots for a double leg takedown but Silva sprawls well. He's pushed Ryan Junior's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Silva tries to control but Ryan Junior wriggling away. Ryan Junior really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Silva moves to take his opponent's back. Silva looking to break Ryan Junior's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Ryan Junior remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Silva will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Silva is trying to stick to Ryan Junior's back but Ryan Junior is turning into Silva. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Silva's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Ryan Junior. Silva has a closed guard, preventing Ryan Junior from standing up. Silva looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
