Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Chavarria! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Diego De Santiago! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De Santiago fails with the takedown. De Santiago wants to clinch and Chavarria counters with a single leg into guard. De Santiago didn't expect that. Chavarria got a little sloppy there for a moment and De Santiago has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chavarria has managed to get both his arms back between De Santiago's legs - danger averted. Chavarria tries to free his leg and advance position but De Santiago is retaining full guard. De Santiago keeping moving, preventing Chavarria from controlling successfully. Chavarria stands up from guard. Let's bang! Chavarria closes the distance and pushes De Santiago back into the cage. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Chavarria breaks the clinch.
The fight moves into the clinch position. De Santiago jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Chavarria walks away with a smile on his face. De Santiago gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's one minute gone in the round. De Santiago gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Chavarria really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. De Santiago looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
De Santiago is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Chavarria frees his head nicely. Oh but De Santiago has switched to an armbar! Chavarria is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
