PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hulk Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jin Kwon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Hulk Hogan has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Hulk Hogan seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hulk Hogan!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jin Kwon!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jorge Garcia and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kwon throws an overhand right that lands on Hogan's shoulder, as Hogan tries to avoid the shot.
Hogan misses with a takedown attempt
and Kwon counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Kwon throws the left hand but Hogan avoids the punch easily.
Hogan ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hogan takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Kwon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Hogan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kwon pinned against the cage. Kwon gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hulk Hogan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hogan gets a takedown into half guard.
Hogan prevents Kwon from standing back up.
Kwon slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Kwon is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Kwon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Well, if Kwon is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hogan is looking for a sweep. Kwon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kwon looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hogan tries to get to full guard but Kwon has control of the leg.
Hogan slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Hogan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kwon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Kwon is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Hogan has an active guard here but Kwon has managed to pass into half guard.
Kwon looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hogan wants to get back to full guard.
Hogan regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hogan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kwon decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hogan, up you get!
Hogan shoots in but no luck this time.
Hogan fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hulk Hogan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hogan takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Kwon lands a jab to the head.
Kwon cracks Hogan with a right hand to the side of the head.
Hogan with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Kwon to score with a decent uppercut.
Hogan takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.


It looks like Hulk Hogan has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hogan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kwon as he avoids it easily.
Hogan shoots in for a double leg but Kwon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Hogan shoots in and bounces Kwon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hogan preventing the sweep.
Kwon pulls Hogan in close to prevent any damage.
Hogan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kwon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hogan with a flurry of punches that miss.
Kwon wants to stand but Hogan is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jin Kwon dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Hulk Hogan's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Hogan has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Kwon finds it's way round the side to connect with Hogan's head.
Kwon scores with a jab to the head.
Kwon throws an overhand right that lands on Hogan's shoulder, as Hogan tries to avoid the shot.
Sloppy strikes from Kwon. Those never looked like landing.
Hogan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kwon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hogan somewhat.
Kwon lunges at Hogan with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hogan's hand.
Jin Kwon seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kwon throws a big shot that misses.
Kwon throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Hogan on the side of the head.
Hogan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kwon jabs Hogan to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Hogan dives in and grabs Kwon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kwon pushes down on Hogan's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hulk Hogan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hogan drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Hulk Hogan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Hogan looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Kwon is avoiding damage well.
Hogan sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Kwon is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Kwon is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Hogan misses with a head shot. Kwon uses the momentum to regain guard.
Kwon wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Hogan trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kwon looking for a sweep. Not yet Kwon, not yet.
Hogan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kwon is keeping the position for now.
Hogan is working hard here to advance position.

Kwon controls Hogan momentarily but Hogan frees himself.
Hogan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Hogan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kwon makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kwon.

Hogan drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kwon looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kwon looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kwon!
Hogan is looking for a sweep.

Kwon moves into full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hogan is in all sorts of trouble here.
Kwon sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Hogan is desperately trying to improve his position but Kwon has a good base and remains in mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jin Kwon will probably get the nod - 10:9.

That's time! Hogan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Hogan swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kwon lands a lovely overhand right.
Hogan shoots for a double leg takedown but Kwon sprawls well. He's pushed Hogan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Kwon counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Hogan keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kwon fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kwon is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Hogan.
Hogan throws a lazy right hand but Kwon sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Hogan fails with a takedown attempt.
Hogan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Kwon connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hogan takes one on the chin but seems OK.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kwon works the jab nicely.


Hogan is rocked!
Kwon plants his feet and throws a 3 punch combo. Miss, miss, boom! The third punch, a big right hook, connects right on the temple and drops Hogan to the mat, unconscious! This fight is all over! Hogan just couldn't keep out of the way of the whole flurry of punches!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jin Kwon! Jin Kwon retains his welterweight title!
