Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rudy Benson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marco Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Benson has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marco Rivera! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A thudding body kick lands there by Rivera!
Benson is breathing heavily. Rivera tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Benson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Benson looks for a takedown but Rivera sprawls well. Rivera moves in looking to clinch but Benson pushes him off. Rivera fails in his attempt to clinch. Rivera fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Rivera plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Rivera wants to clinch. Rivera swats away the attempt to clinch by Benson.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rivera tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Benson paws at him with a jab and circles away. Rivera tries for a takedown but Benson circles away easily and Benson counters with a shoot takedown. Rivera fights it but they end up in guard. Rivera is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Rivera working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Benson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Benson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Rivera escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Benson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Benson shoots in for a takedown but Rivera shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rudy Benson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rivera cracks Benson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Rivera throws a nice head kick!

Rivera wants to control but Benson postures up. Benson tries to stand but Rivera is controlling his head. Rivera sneaks back into half guard. Rivera is trying to get back to full guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rivera slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Rivera looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Rivera wants to clinch. Rivera goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Rivera takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Rivera moves into the clinch. Rivera breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rudy Benson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Benson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Benson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Benson trying to control but Rivera is having none of it. Rivera is wriggling around trying to escape.

Rivera is looking to improve his position but Benson isn't that keen on the idea. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rivera wants to hold on but Benson pushes him away. Rivera tries to buck Benson off but he can't manage it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Rivera tries to reverse the position but Benson maintains control. Rivera is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Rivera is in all sorts of trouble here.
Rivera is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Rivera wants to hold on but Benson pushes him away. Benson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rivera on the ground. Rivera working to try and regain half guard.

Rivera sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Rivera tries to roll over but Benson keeps him under control. Rivera works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Rivera looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Benson controls from within his opponent's guard. Benson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Marco Rivera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Benson tries to clinch up. Rivera gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Benson counters with a shoot takedown. Rivera fights it but they end up in guard. Rivera is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Benson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Rivera lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Both fighters circling a little - Rivera finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Benson steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Rivera. That one must have hurt. Rivera tries to clinch there but Benson circles away.

Rivera lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt. Rivera tries to clinch but Benson moves out of range. Rivera is looking to clinch. Rivera tries to close the distance and clinch up but Benson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Rivera shoots for a takedown but Benson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Benson takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

That's one minute gone in the round. Rivera is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Benson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rivera keeps the fight on the outside. Rivera throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Benson. Rivera gets a clinch. Rivera wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Rivera tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Benson just stands there and leans against the cage. Rivera managing to block the knees to the body from Benson.
Rivera breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Rivera stuns Benson with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Rivera is looking to clinch but Benson is avoiding it.
Benson gets a takedown into half guard. Rivera is trying to maintain the position but Benson is very close to passing his half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Benson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Benson prevents Rivera from getting the reversal. Rivera throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Rivera is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Benson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Rivera is trying to maintain the position but Benson is very close to passing his half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Benson seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Benson is looking to stall here but Rivera recovers full guard. Benson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
