Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cain Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Karpushev!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Velasquez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Karpushev on his heels. He'll look to pass Karpushev's guard now, I'm sure.

Velasquez lands a couple of digs.
Karpushev working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Velasquez.
Velasquez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Karpushev swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Velasquez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Velasquez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Velasquez is looking to work some ground and pound but Karpushev has wrist control.

Karpushev looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Velasquez looks up at the clock and then as Karpushev takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Velasquez smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Karpushev takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Velasquez in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Karpushev looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Velasquez turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!
