Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mel Menson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hugo Barrera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mel Menson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hugo Barrera! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barrera swats away the attempt to clinch by Menson. Menson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barrera tries to avoid it but Menson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barrera to the ground. Barrera escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Barrera throws the left hand but Menson avoids the punch easily. Menson fails with a takedown attempt. Barrera throws a shot from downtown. Menson moves away and avoids it. Menson takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Menson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Menson keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Barrera. Barrera lands a two punch combo.
Barrera lands a lovely overhand right. Menson slips a jab from Barrera. Menson shoots in for a takedown but Barrera shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mel Menson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Menson throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Menson fails in his attempt to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Menson tries for a takedown but Barrera sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Barrera pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Barrera keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Menson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Barrera. Menson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Menson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Barrera smiles and moves away.
Menson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Barrera misses with a looping left. Menson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Barrera lands with a cross. Hugo Barrera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Menson shoots and misses and Barrera counters with a lovely shot to the body. Menson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Barrera looks to land a left hand but Menson moved out of range nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Menson slips under a jab from Barrera. Barrera jabbing away but nothing is landing. Barrera misses with an uppercut. Barrera looks to land a right hand but Menson moved out of range. Menson defending well as Barrera loads up on a big left hand. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Menson blocks a jab. Menson slips under a jab. Menson cracks Barrera with an open hand slap. Barrera lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Barrera might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Menson wants to clinch up but Barrera keeps it at a distance. Menson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Barrera slaps away a takedown attempt from Menson, before circling back to the center of the mat. Menson is breathing heavily. Menson ducks under a wild hook from Barrera.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Menson's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Menson duly obliges. Barrera throws a shot to the body.
Barrera lunges at Menson with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Menson's hand. Barrera throws a right hand that misses
and Menson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Menson stops Barrera from standing up. Barrera tries to land a sweep but no joy. Barrera keeping moving, preventing Menson from controlling successfully. Menson won't allow Barrera to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
We're going to have a standup here because Mel Menson wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Barrera throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Barrera jabbing away but nothing is landing. Menson moves out of range of the strikes. Menson with a poor takedown and Barrera counters with a straight right hand. Menson uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Barrera. Barrera cracks Menson with a good jab. Menson fails with a takedown attempt. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Barrera swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Menson. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Mel Menson will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Nice defenses there by Menson. Barrera looks to land a left hand but Menson moved out of range nicely. An inside leg kick lands from Menson. Menson goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Barrera throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Barrera clobbers Menson with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. The fight moves into the clinch position. Barrera gets underhooks to prevent Menson's takedown attempt.
A bit of stalling here from Barrera.
Menson tries to pull guard but Barrera won't allow it.
Barrera lands a right hand that snaps the head of Menson backwards. Menson is trying to drag Barrera to the mat but Barrera just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mel Menson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barrera stalling against the cage.
Menson misses with a body punch.
Menson pulls Barrera into guard.
Menson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Barrera wants to stand but Menson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Menson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Barrera is one step ahead there. Barrera wanted to stand there but Menson had control of the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Menson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Barrera's guard. Menson stops Barrera from standing up. Barrera keeping moving, preventing Menson from controlling successfully.

Menson should have avoided that one. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Menson. Barrera scores with a crisp jab that stopped Menson in his tracks. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Barrera connects with a crisp jab. Barrera throws out a loose jab but Menson uses good head movement to avoid it. Barrera misses with an uppercut. Menson saw that one coming. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Mel Menson will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Barrera cracks Menson with a good jab. Menson fails in his attempt to clinch. Barrera defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Menson. Barrera takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Menson dives in and grabs Barrera's left leg, looking for a takedown. Barrera pushes down on Menson's head and hops out. Menson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Barrera defends it nicely. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mel Menson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Barrera throws a right and a left that Menson avoids nicely. Barrera looks to throw the jab but Menson is out of range. Barrera smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Barrera misses with a looping right. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Menson slips a jab from Barrera. Menson circles away from the clinch attempt.

Menson ducked under it nicely. Menson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Barrera sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Hugo Barrera is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Barrera throws the left hand but Menson avoids the punch easily. Menson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Barrera finds it's way round the side to connect with Menson's head. Barrera throws a lazy right hand but Menson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Menson staying out of range there. Nice uppercut there from Barrera. Menson looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Barrera lands an overhand right. That's two minutes gone in the round. Barrera lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Mel Menson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Barrera leaves Menson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Menson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Barrera swivels and escapes. Barrera fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Barrera misses with a body shot.
Barrera throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Menson slips under a jab. Barrera's jab looks to have found its range, popping Menson under the eye. Good exchange - Barrera coming out on top. Barrera connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Barrera throws a big shot that misses. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Menson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Barrera.

Menson does a little dance to reset his feet. Menson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barrera tries to avoid it but Menson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barrera to the ground. Barrera escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Menson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Barrera throws out the jab. Barrera lands with a hook. Menson tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Barrera takes a swing at Menson's ribcage but misses. Barrera misses the shot to the body. No luck for Menson with that takedown attempt. Barrera connects with the punch. Barrera jabbing away but nothing is landing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Menson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. A big right from Barrera misses. Nice cross by Barrera. Barrera misses with a hook. Menson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barrera pinned against the cage. Barrera gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Menson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Menson slips under a jab. Menson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Barrera sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Menson somewhat. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Barrera looks to throw the jab but Menson is out of range.
And that's the end of the fight! Hugo Barrera comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Menson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
