PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jia Le Li (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabriel Zat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zat is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Open your eyes by Alter Bridge. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jia Le Li!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gabriel Zat!
The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zat lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Zat.
Li throws a leg kick that misses.
Zat moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Zat rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Li moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A punch combination from Zat misses.
Zat tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Li wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Gabriel Zat seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zat takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Zat takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Zat stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Li.
Zat connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Zat scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Li lands the left hand.
Li ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Li forces Zat back against the cage and clinches.
Li gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.


It looks like Gabriel Zat has been cut.
Zat tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Zat tries to pull guard but Li holds him up against the cage and eventually Zat drops back down to his feet.
Zat tries for a takedown but Li manages to get underhooks.
Jia Le Li has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel Zat.
Li tries to land knees in the clinch but Zat avoids the damage to the body.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Li.

Zat is working for takedown but Li is calmly controlling the position for now.

The referee is keeping an eye on Li - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Zat wants a takedown but no success here.
Li prevents a takedown attempt there.

Zat is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Li tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Zat avoids it.

Zat has had enough of the clinch but Li keeps him there for the moment.
Zat drops down looking for an ankle pick but Li pulls his leg out and moves away.
Zat throws a right and a left that both miss.
Li keeps the fight on the outside.
Zat takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Zat swings for the body but Li moves out of range.
Zat fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Li wants to land a leg kick but Zat is out of range.
A right-left combo lands from Zat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Li distracts Zat with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Li seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Zat for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Li throws a solid leg kick but Zat takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Li.
Nice body kick from Li.
Zat takes a kick to the side of the head.
Zat misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Li lands a nice hook to Zat's body. Zat takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Li jabs Zat to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Li knocks Zat to the floor with a head kick! Can he finish him!?


Zat is rocked!
Li staying calm.
Zat is still in real trouble! Can Li finish him?

Li is trying to get an arm triangle but Zat is defending well.
Zat is breathing heavily.
Li lands some shots froms side control.

Zat takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Li looks up at the clock and then as Zat takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Li smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Li is working Zat over with some ground and pound from side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Li has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Li tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Li has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Li remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Zat seems to have recovered his senses.
Li works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Li takes a little break here. Zat wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zat can't do much from the bottom here.
Jia Le Li overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Check out the look on Li's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Zat is trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Li controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Zat fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Li throws a head kick but Zat moves out of range.

Zat tries to keep at a distance but Li has taken the fight into the clinch.
Li is pressed up against the cage. Zat has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Li down to the mat. Li avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Zat shoots in for a double leg but Li sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jia Le Li has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel Zat.
A nice inside leg kick there by Li. That's going to slow Zat down.
Li misses with a body kick.
Li takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Zat takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Jia Le Li is winning the standup battle so far.
No joy there for Zat, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Li lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Zat misses with a double jab.
Zat takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Li throws out a powerful jab.

Li scores with a takedown into Zat's guard.
Li sitting in guard here, content to control.
Li is pushing down on Zat's leg trying to pass to half guard. Zat is fighting to maintain full guard but Li has managed to sneak the leg through.
Still in half guard, Li seems content to control.
Li has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Zat is in trouble now - Li has advanced to mount!

Zat is in all sorts of trouble here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Li has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Zat's face.

Li looking to control and managing it successfully.
Zat is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag.
Zat is looking to improve his position but Li isn't that keen on the idea.
Li is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Li is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zat can do to turn this around?

Zat is looking to get to half guard.
Li is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Zat can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Gabriel Zat has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Zat takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Li's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
