Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Stephan Potvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gilbert Taneyev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the ring it seems that Stephan Potvin has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Stephan Potvin seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Stephan Potvin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Gilbert Taneyev! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taneyev stuffs the takedown attempt from Potvin. Potvin gets slowly back to his feet. Potvin tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Taneyev counters with a left and a right that stings Potvin. Potvin has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Taneyev. Taneyev shoots for a double leg takedown but Potvin sprawls well. He's pushed Taneyev's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Sloppy strikes from Taneyev. Those never looked like landing. Taneyev doesn't manage to clinch there - Potvin circles away.
Taneyev tries to clinch up. Taneyev throws a right and a left that Potvin avoids nicely. Potvin fails with the takedown. Potvin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Taneyev sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Potvin somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Stephan Potvin. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Potvin fails miserably with a takedown attempt. The fight stays on the outside here - Potvin looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Taneyev rushes Potvin and presses him up against the ropes. Potvin has Taneyev pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Taneyev manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Taneyev tries to circle away but Potvin has him pinned against the ropes. Taneyev's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. A left and a right from Taneyev both land. Nice combination.

Potvin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes. Potvin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Taneyev pulls him back up using the underhooks. Potvin gets a trip takedown into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Potvin thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. That's three minutes gone in the round. Potvin drops an elbow to the side of Taneyev's head. Still in half guard, Potvin seems content to control. Taneyev tries to kick Potvin off but Potvin keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Potvin working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Taneyev's thigh. Taneyev counters though and makes it back to full guard. Potvin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Potvin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Potvin wants to control from the top but Taneyev keeps moving. Potvin is pushing down on Taneyev's leg trying to pass to half guard. Taneyev is fighting to maintain full guard but Potvin has managed to sneak the leg through. Potvin seems to be working for a kimura but Taneyev defends the submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Taneyev tries to roll over but Potvin keeps him under control. Taneyev is trying to stand up here but Potvin is controlling him well. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! That was a close round but I would say that Stephan Potvin will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Taneyev is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Potvin fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Taneyev swats away the attempt to clinch by Potvin. Taneyev pushes Potvin up against the ropes in a clinch. Potvin tries to score a body lock takedown but Taneyev shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Potvin is pressed up against the ropes. Taneyev has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Potvin down to the mat. Potvin avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Taneyev tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Potvin paws at him with a jab and circles away. Potvin shoots in for a takedown but Taneyev shows good takedown defense. Potvin is pressing down on Taneyev's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Potvin keeping full guard, as Taneyev tries to pass. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Potvin looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gilbert Taneyev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Potvin circles away from the clinch attempt and Potvin counters with a takedown into side control. Potvin working the ground and pound but Taneyev is defending the strikes. Potvin working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Potvin cracks Taneyev with a big right hand but Taneyev just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Potvin goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Taneyev rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Potvin's guard! Nice work there by Taneyev! Potvin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Taneyev drops back, looking for a kneebar! Potvin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Potvin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Potvin!

Potvin sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Potvin landing punches. Stephan Potvin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Potvin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Taneyev is looking to escape. Potvin landing strikes from the mount. Poor strikes thrown by Potvin there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Potvin scoring with strikes but Taneyev is staying in there. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Potvin throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Taneyev because Potvin loaded up on that one. Potvin lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Taneyev hang on? Taneyev is looking to get to half guard. Potvin scores with a couple of good head shots there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Potvin avoids the attempt from Taneyev to control. Potvin has hold of Taneyev's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Taneyev manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
