Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shane Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Psycho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shane Carwin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Karl Psycho! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Fedor Mirinova and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Psycho tries to bum rush Carwin with a series of wild strikes but Carwin uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Psycho misses with a double jab
and Carwin counters with a single leg into guard. Psycho didn't expect that. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Carwin is in close to Psycho's body, working some short punches and elbows. Carwin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Psycho wants to stand but Carwin is controlling the position. Carwin controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Psycho is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Carwin sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Sloppy strikes from Psycho. Those never looked like landing. Psycho rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Carwin moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Psycho throws a combination that misses and Carwin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Carwin is figuring out what he wants to do next. Carwin throwing shots but Psycho is blocking nicely.

Psycho tries to roll over but Carwin keeps him under control. Nice strikes from Carwin there. Carwin performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Carwin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Carwin not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Carwin is figuring out what he wants to do next. Carwin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Psycho looks like he's trying to stand up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Shane Carwin just wasn't active enough. Psycho tries to clinch but fails miserably and Carwin counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Psycho's guard now. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Carwin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Carwin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Carwin working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Carwin controlling from the top position. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Psycho throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Carwin slips a jab and a cross from Psycho.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Psycho tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Carwin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Carwin. Carwin showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Carwin seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Psycho for as long as he can get away with. Carwin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Carwin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Carwin works a leg free and moves into half guard. Carwin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We're going to have a standup here because Shane Carwin wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Psycho fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Psycho moves to clinch but Carwin breaks away and Carwin counters with a single leg into guard. Psycho didn't expect that. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Carwin looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Carwin lands a couple of digs. Psycho is looking for a triangle but Carwin pushes his legs off easily.
Carwin postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Psycho really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carwin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Carwin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shane Carwin dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Carwin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
