PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Converse Frame (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Converse Frame!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Austin Jones!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones connects with a solid leg kick.
Frame shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Frame pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Frame is defended easily by Jones.
Frame will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Frame tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jones was well out of range. Poor timing from Frame.
Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Frame circles away from the clinch attempt.
A nice inside leg kick there by Jones. That's going to slow Frame down.
Frame wants to clinch.
A punch combination from Jones misses.

Jones stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jones wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Converse Frame. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Frame is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jones sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Frame but Frame pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Frame dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Frame's head and hops out.

Jones shoots in and bounces Frame off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Frame is looking to stand back up but Jones counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Frame.

Frame is trying to stand.
Frame really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Frame is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jones is thwarting Frame's attempts to control the position.
Frame taking some punishment here, with Jones in his half guard.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Jones stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Frame to get to his feet.
Jones fails to land the takedown.

Frame changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Frame manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jones dives in and grabs Frame's left leg, looking for a takedown. Frame pushes down on Jones's head and hops out.
Frame lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Jones looks gassed!
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Frame fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jones misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Frame takes a kick to the side of the head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Frame moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.
Jones lands a jab-cross combination.
Frame misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Austin Jones dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Jones walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Frame shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed Frame's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jones tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Frame counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Jones thinking.

Jones shoots in and bounces Frame off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Frame trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.

Jones stands up and beckons Frame to join him on the feet.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Frame moves out of range easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Frame.

Frame is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Jones is keeping busy.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Converse Frame. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A frustrated look appears on Jones's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Jones keeps control of Frame as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Jones wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Jones manages to break the clinch.
Jones throws a nice looking combination but Frame bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jones shoots in for a double leg but Frame sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Austin Jones seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Frame misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Jones rushes Frame and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Frame tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Frame is pressed up against the cage. Jones has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Frame down to the mat. Frame avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Frame throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Frame tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Frame displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Jones.
Frame swats away the attempt to clinch by Jones.
Austin Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Jones has managed to clinch.
Jones is trying to break free.
Jones stops a takedown attempt from Frame.
Jones tries to break the clinch but Frame is controlling the position.
Frame tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.

Jones keeps the fight on the outside.

Frame drives through with a takedown into guard.
Frame would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Frame throws a strike but Jones rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Frame has his hands on Jones's head, controlling the position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Frame working for a triangle but Jones defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Austin Jones will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Frame circles away.
Frame misses with an uppercut. Jones saw that one coming.
Jones tries to score a power double leg takedown but Frame sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jones somewhat.
Frame fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Frame has closed the distance and engaged Jones in a clinch.

Frame has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Frame tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Frame counters with a big head kick but Jones shrugs it off.

Jones shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Frame is trying to defend but Jones finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Jones slips a nice elbow through Frame's hands, connecting with Frame's forehead.
Frame knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.
Frame is trying to stand up here but Jones is controlling him well.
Frame is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jones is nestled in close to Frame, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Frame wants to get back to full guard but Jones has mounted him!

Frame can't escape the position.
Jones fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Jones has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Frame's face.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Frame is wriggling around trying to escape.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Austin Jones is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Austin Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
