Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jesus Quintana! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kimbo Smith! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Quintana gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Smith counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Quintana. Smith lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Quintana closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Smith quickly recovers to half guard. Quintana prevents Smith from standing back up.

Smith trying to get back to full guard but Quintana takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Smith is trying to stand up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Smith is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Quintana controlling from mount. Smith wants to hold on but Quintana pushes him away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quintana tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Quintana goes for an armbar but Smith turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Smith. Smith wants to stand and escape but instead Quintana has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Quintana wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving. Smith wants to get back to his feet but Quintana is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Quintana trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom. Quintana is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We're going to have a standup here because Jesus Quintana wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Smith throws a looping overhand right but Quintana ducks down to avoid it. Smith stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Smith wants it to stay on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesus Quintana. That's going to take a lot out of him. Quintana steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Smith.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Quintana bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Smith tries to buck Quintana off but Quintana is having none of it. Smith wants to get back to his feet but Quintana drags him back down. Quintana trying to control the position but Smith is working away. Smith being controlled for a moment. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Smith struggling a bit here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Jesus Quintana will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Quintana bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Quintana shoots in looking for a takedown but Smith manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Quintana's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. A swing and a miss from Smith. Kimbo Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Smith falls off balance throwing a combination
and Quintana holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Quintana has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Smith is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Smith has Quintana pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Quintana manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Quintana jumps guard and drags Smith to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith wanted to stand there but Quintana had control of the position. Smith stands and steps away. Quintana gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Smith swinging wildly here.
Quintana moves out of range of the strikes. Quintana uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Smith. Smith misses with a jab, cross combination.
Smith throws a jab when Quintana was well out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Quintana sees it coming and avoids it easily. Smith throws out a loose jab but Quintana uses good head movement to avoid it. Smith looks to score with a jab to the body but Quintana is just out of range. Quintana will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesus Quintana. That's going to take a lot out of him. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Quintana is defended easily by Smith. Quintana fails with the takedown. Smith swings widly with a right hand
and Quintana counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Quintana. This has been an exciting period of action! Quintana not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Quintana stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard. Smith can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Quintana controls the pace. Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Quintana wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Jesus Quintana just wasn't active enough. Smith stuffs the takedown attempt from Quintana. Quintana gets slowly back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Smith shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Smith swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Quintana counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Smith is looking to improve his position.
Smith wants to get back to his feet. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Smith wants to stand back up but Quintana manages to pass into side control.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jesus Quintana will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target. Quintana tries to score a power double leg takedown but Smith sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Quintana somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesus Quintana. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith throws a big shot that misses. Smith displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Kimbo Smith seems to be getting the better of the standup. Quintana fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Smith sprawls well initially but Quintana persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Smith has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Quintana is working away from the top position though. Smith is trying to stand.
Quintana takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Quintana is trying to control the action in half guard but Smith is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Smith tries to roll over but Quintana keeps him under control. Quintana wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Jesus Quintana just wasn't active enough. Quintana with a lazy takedown attempt and Smith cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Quintana has his takedown stuffed and Smith counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smith throws an ugly left hook that misses
so Quintana counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Quintana stops Smith from standing up. Quintana trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Quintana won't allow Smith to get back to his feet. Quintana tries to free his leg and advance position but Smith is retaining full guard. Jesus Quintana is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Quintana's corner is telling him to maintain position. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Quintana avoids the body shot from Smith.
And that's the end of the fight! Jesus Quintana showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Quintana, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
