Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mikey McDonald! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, James Hodges! The judges for this bout are James Glass, Chris Edwards and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDonald looks for a takedown but Hodges sprawls well. Hodges looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! McDonald changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hodges tries to avoid it but McDonald manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hodges to the ground. Hodges escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. McDonald fails with a takedown attempt from distance. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mikey McDonald. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hodges swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
McDonald fails to land the takedown. McDonald looks for a takedown but Hodges sprawls well. McDonald fails with a takedown attempt. McDonald bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Hodges struggling a bit here. McDonald controlling the position. Hodges stops McDonald from passing to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. McDonald looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. McDonald misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
McDonald is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hodges has escaped the position, nice work there. McDonald tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McDonald has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Hodges isn't going anywhere. McDonald works to advance to full mount. Hodges defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. McDonald can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hodges is looking to escape. Hodges really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McDonald. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hodges defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from McDonald. McDonald looking to control but Hodges is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! McDonald working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. McDonald trying to control but Hodges is having none of it. McDonald content just to control the position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McDonald working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Hodges turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips McDonald off and cradles Hodges's limp body as McDonald celebrates with his corner.
