PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Justin Epstein (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kangas Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan has chosen Try and Catch Me as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Epstein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kangas Khan!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Epstein avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Epstein dodges the punch combination from Khan.
Epstein misses with a looping left.
Khan stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Khan gets a clinch.
Khan effectively controlling the action here.
Epstein jumps guard but Khan stands there with Epstein around his waist. Epstein gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Epstein keeps control of Khan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Khan lands a body punch in the clinch.

Epstein will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Epstein counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Epstein wants to control but Khan is keeping him busy.
Khan tries to kick Epstein off in order to stand up. Epstein Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Epstein is looking to take a break and control but Khan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Epstein prevents Khan from escaping the position.

Epstein is trying to get an arm triangle but Khan is defending well.
Khan tries to get back to half guard but can't.

You can see the frustration on Khan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Khan wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Epstein wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Khan, who protects the arm well.

Khan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Epstein. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Epstein is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Khan is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Epstein goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Khan has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Epstein but great work by Khan.
Khan happy to just control the position for now.

Epstein is looking for a sweep.
Khan slows the pace down.

Khan stands up and beckons Epstein to his feet.
Khan works the jab nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Khan misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kangas Khan dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Khan tries to work over Epstein's front leg with a kick but Epstein checks it.
Khan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Epstein throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Khan's waist but Khan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Epstein off to one side.

Khan gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Epstein keeps control of Khan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Khan lands a shoulder strike.
Khan lands a right hand.
Khan lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
A left hand lands to the body for Khan.
Epstein tries to circle away but Khan has him pinned against the cage.
Epstein fails to pull guard.
Epstein keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Khan's efforts to push away.

Epstein escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Khan lands a really nice looking cross but Epstein seems unphased.


Epstein is rocked!
Justin Epstein seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Khan tries to sprawl but Epstein drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Oh Epstein is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Khan is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Epstein seems to have got his legs back now.
Khan tries to kick Epstein off but Epstein keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Epstein is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Khan sees it coming and defends easily.
Epstein is pressing down on Khan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Khan is holding on for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Khan preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Let's hope that Khan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Epstein trying to control the action but Khan is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan pushes Epstein off but Epstein dives into side control.
Khan is looking to regain half guard here but Epstein keeps moving and retains side control.

Khan is trying to control Epstein's posture but Epstein avoids it.
Khan is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Epstein asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Epstein really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Epstein decides to stand up, so the ref orders Khan to his feet.

Khan moves into range and connects with a jab.
Epstein is looking to clinch but Khan is avoiding it.
Khan misses with a double jab.
Epstein fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Epstein. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Khan lands with a good body shot.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kangas Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Khan fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Epstein on the side of the head.

Epstein shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Khan sprawls well. Khan wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Epstein gets slowly back to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Khan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Epstein misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kangas Khan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Epstein throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Khan clinches up with Epstein and pushes him back against the cage.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Khan working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Khan is leaning against Epstein and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Khan breaks from the clinch.
Epstein shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Khan defends it nicely.
Khan tests Epstein's chin there with a solid looking shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Khan lands with a right and another and another! Epstein is in big trouble! Khan lands again and this time it's lights out for Epstein! A quality knockout there for Khan.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Kangas Khan!
