PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Valentijn Overeem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Valentijn Overeem!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Paul Aken and Saam Ante.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Emelianenko is defended easily by Overeem.

Emelianenko tries to sprawl but Overeem drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Overeem missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

Emelianenko kicks Overeem off and gets back to his feet.

Overeem shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Overeem was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Emelianenko could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Overeem has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Emelianenko's face.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Emelianenko is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Emelianenko is squirming around, avoiding Overeem's attempts to control the action.

Overeem controlling the position easily from mount.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
A nice elbow there by Overeem.
Emelianenko can't escape the position.

Emelianenko bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Emelianenko sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Overeem's guard.

Emelianenko stands up out of the half guard.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Emelianenko enables Overeem to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Emelianenko manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Emelianenko lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Overeem!
Emelianenko has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Overeem's face.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Emelianenko trying to control but Overeem is having none of it.
Overeem really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Emelianenko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Valentijn Overeem will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Overeem is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Emelianenko's half guard.
Emelianenko is pressing down on Overeem's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Overeem content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Emelianenko has locked up a guillotine! Emelianenko's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Overeem is holding on here and Emelianenko must be using up a lot of energy. Overeem has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Emelianenko gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
