PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dugan Hicks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Vinici (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vinici has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dugan Hicks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kevin Vinici!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vinici shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hicks as he jumps to the side.
Vinici looks gassed!

Hicks gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Vinici tries to pull guard but Hicks holds him up against the cage and eventually Vinici drops back down to his feet.
Vinici jumps guard but Hicks stands there with Vinici around his waist. Vinici gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Dugan Hicks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Vinici.
Hicks effectively controlling the action here.
Vinici is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Hicks gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Vinici regains guard.

Hicks is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Hicks stands up over Vinici, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Hicks is looking to work some ground and pound but Vinici has wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dugan Hicks.
Hicks looks for a takedown but Vinici sprawls well.
Hicks shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Vinici sprawls well. Vinici wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hicks gets slowly back to his feet.

Vinici gets caught napping as Hicks dives in and scores a takedown. Vinici manages to retain guard.

Hicks drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hicks jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hicks shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hicks showed some decent athleticism there.

Hicks is keen to just control but Vinici is a slippery customer.
Vinici is breathing heavily.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hicks in particular looking to stall.
Dugan Hicks overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

We're going to have a standup here because Dugan Hicks wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hicks.
Hicks looks for a takedown but Vinici sprawls well.
Vinici shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hicks pinned against the cage. Hicks gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Vinici gets tackled into the cage by Hicks. Hicks maintains the clinch.

Hicks landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Hicks will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Vinici up against the cage.
Hicks gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.
Vinici gets underhooks to prevent Hicks's takedown attempt.

Vinici's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Hicks creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Hicks changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Vinici fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Vinici throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hicks's waist but Hicks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vinici off to one side.

Hicks feints and as Vinici raises his hands in defense, Hicks changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hicks wants to control from the top but Vinici keeps moving.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Hicks stops Vinici from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dugan Hicks.

Hicks closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

No luck for Vinici with that takedown attempt.
Hicks misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Vinici wants to clinch.
Hicks looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vinici is fending him off so far but Hicks persists. Nope, Vinici circles away and we're back to standing.

Horrible takedown by Vinici or perhaps it was just good defense by Hicks which made him look bad.

Hicks moves into range and clinches up with Vinici.
Hicks just leaning against Vinici, taking a breather.
Vinici is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hicks pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Hicks lands an elbow inside that Vinici shrugs off.
Hicks tries for a takedown. No joy.
Vinici looking to throw knees to the head but Hicks is blocking nicely.
Hicks tries to score a body lock takedown but Vinici shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Hicks pulls guard successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vinici postures up.
Hicks wants to sweep but no luck.
Vinici stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hicks swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Vinici missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hicks wants to get back to his feet but Vinici is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Hicks is looking for a triangle here but Vinici uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Kevin Vinici has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dugan Hicks is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hicks is trying to control Vinici's posture but Vinici avoids it.
