Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Roy Shaw! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Kevin Big! The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Richard Clark and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Big darts in and clinches Shaw up against the cage. Big goes for a takedown in the clinch but Shaw prevents it.
Big has picked Shaw up - he's going for a ride! Big dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Big is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Big moves nicely into side control. Shaw is trying to get back to his feet. Big grinds an elbow into Shaw's temple. Shaw manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shaw throwing shots but Big is blocking nicely. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Big wants to control but Shaw is keeping busy.
Big is looking for a sweep. Shaw is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Big is trying to maintain the position but Shaw is very close to passing his half guard. Big is trying to stand back up but Shaw is controlling him
Shaw is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's one minute gone in the round. Big keeps control of the position for the meantime. Big has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Big is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Shaw's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Shaw's back! Big is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Shaw knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Shaw for a finish. This has been an exciting period of action! Big is punishing Shaw with strikes - can he finish him?! Shaw can't escape the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Big landing with strikes. Shaw is trying to stand back up. Shaw is breathing heavily. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Shaw grimaces as he takes a shot to the body. Big is working for a rear naked choke. Shaw is not defending it well and Big has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Shaw refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Shaw's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Kevin Big!
