The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oliveira dives in and scores a takedown into Bird's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Bird uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Oliveira is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bird's half guard.
Oliveira wants to pass to mount but Bird is defending the position.

Bird knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Oliveira on the ground.

Bird takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Oliveira shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Oliveira was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Oliveira is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A head kick from Oliveira lands but Bird takes it in his stride.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Oliveira moves into the clinch.
Oliveira is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Bird can't fight it off and eventually Oliveira manages to take the fight to the floor. Bird looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Oliveira is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Bird might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Let's hope that Oliveira has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Bird is working an open guard so Oliveira takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Oliveira decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bird is looking to escape.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Oliveira shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Oliveira was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Oliveira takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Oliveira has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Bird's face.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
