Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gordon Hood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Howell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gordon Hood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Josh Howell!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Hugh Johnson and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howell with a nice cross.
Howell connects with a high kick.
Hood swats away the attempt to clinch by Howell.
A looping hook to the body misses from Hood. Howell does a little dance to reset his feet.
Howell tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Hood manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The fighters circling - Hood throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Hood avoids the head kick by Howell.
Howell pushes Hood up against the cage in a clinch.
Howell gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Howell is trying to control. Hood wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Howell is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hood doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Howell.

Howell seems to be working for a kimura but Hood defends the submission attempt.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gordon Hood wasn't doing enough on the ground.

The fight stays on the outside here - Howell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Howell tries to close the distance and clinch but Hood swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Howell throws a right and a left that both miss.
Hood avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Hood dives in and grabs Howell's left leg, looking for a takedown. Howell pushes down on Hood's head and hops out.

Hood shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Howell as he jumps to the side.
Hood is breathing heavily.
Howell throws a body kick that misses.
Howell takes the fight into the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hood is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Howell gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Howell wants a takedown but no success here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Josh Howell dominated that round.
That's time! Hood's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Howell throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Howell stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Howell wants it to stay on the feet.
Howell lands a nice shot to the body.
Howell slaps away a takedown attempt from Hood, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Howell wants to clinch
and Hood counters with a two punch combo.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hood looks to score with a jab to the body but Howell is just out of range.
Hood tries to score a power double leg takedown but Howell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hood somewhat.

Howell has Hood pressed against the cage.
Hood tries to score a body lock takedown but Howell shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Howell gets control of Hood's arms and successfully pulls guard. Howell will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Hood wants to control from the top but Howell keeps moving.
Hood tries to free his leg and advance position but Howell is retaining full guard.
Hood is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Hood tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Hood lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Howell is not content to let Hood control the position.

Howell sneaks out the side door and pushes Hood away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Hood bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Howell tries to buck Hood off but Hood is having none of it.
Howell parries the strikes from Hood easily there. Hood is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Howell to escape.
Howell is looking for a sweep.
Howell is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hood's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Hood trying to pass the guard but Howell defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hood keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Gordon Hood dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

and Hood counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Hood has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Howell regains guard immediately.

Hood trying to control the position from guard on top but Howell is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Howell is looking for a triangle but Hood pushes his legs off easily.

Howell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hood manages to avoid it.
Hood closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Howell quickly recovers to half guard.
Howell wants to improve his position but Hood is controlling well.
Hood takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hood wants to take a breather but Howell is having none of it.
And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gordon Hood.
I think Hood has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
