Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bob Bear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Philip Gray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bob Bear!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Philip Gray!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gray throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bear was covering up waiting for the punch and Gray finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Gray throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gray stands up over Bear, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Gray throwing strikes from guard but Bear blocks nicely.
Gray lands a couple of elbows.
Gray in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Bear working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gray.

Bear has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gray off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gray thows a leg kick but Bear checks it
and Bear counters with a head kick. That will keep Gray thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Gray dives in and grabs Bear's left leg, looking for a takedown. Bear pushes down on Gray's head and hops out.

Gray shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Bear lands a slapping body shot.

Bear moves into range and clinches up with Gray.
Gray tries to stall but Bear uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Gray drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Bob Bear has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Philip Gray.
Bear lands an elbow inside that Gray shrugs off.


It looks like Philip Gray has been cut.
Bear throws an elbow but it misses.
Bear lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Bear is pressed up against the cage. Gray has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bear down to the mat. Bear avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Bear just leaning against Gray, taking a breather.
Bear throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Grays head.
With the fighters up against the cage, Bear throws an elbow but misses.
Gray blocks an elbow strike from Bear.
Gray is working for takedown but Bear is calmly controlling the position for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gray drops down looking for an ankle pick but Bear pulls his leg out and moves away.
Philip Gray seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bear doesn't manage to clinch there - Gray circles away.
Bear wants to clinch.
Gray misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bear.

Gray closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Bear did well to prevent Gray getting side control.
Gray scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Gray throws a strike but Bear avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Gray loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gray accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bear preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Gray throws a strike but Bear rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Bear looking to sit in guard and control but Gray gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gray lands a couple of elbows.
Gray thows a big elbow that misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gray has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Gray closes the distance and pushes Bear back into the cage.
Bear prevents the takedown attempt.
Bear is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Gray is defending well for now.
A right hook to the body lands for Bear.
Bear gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Gray goes for a takedown attempt but Bear pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Bob Bear is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bear tries to close the distance and clinch but Gray swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gray tries a head kick but it misses.
Bear throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


That has opened up Philip Gray's cut even more.
Nice sprawl there from Bear as Gray shoots in.
Bob Bear has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Philip Gray.
Bear tries to clinch but Gray is having none of it.
Gray closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bear circles away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Thud! ouch! good body kick from Bear - that will leave a mark!
Bear changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Gray is breathing heavily.
Gray has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Bear.
Bear tries to close the distance and clinch up but Gray swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Bear lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Bear will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gray shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bear as he jumps to the side.

Bear lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bear lands a hook that snaps the head of Gray backwards.
Bear unloads a knee to the mid-section.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Bear.
Bear comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Gray tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bear has Gray pressed against the cage.
Bear gets through Gray's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Gray is trying to drag Bear to the mat but Bear just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Bear landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Bear lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Gray tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bear smiles and moves away.
No luck for Gray with that takedown attempt.
Bear looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bear displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gray.
Bear tries to clinch up but Gray circles away and keeps his distance.

Horrible takedown by Gray or perhaps it was just good defense by Bear which made him look bad.

The cut above Philip Gray's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Gray has his takedown stuffed
and Bear counters with a body kick.
Bear tries to clinch up.

Bear moves into range and clinches up with Gray.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Bear lands a knee to the body.
Bear lands a damaging elbow.

Bear unloads a knee to the mid-section. Gray lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Bear gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Bear wants to get back to his feet but Gray drags him back down.

Gray throwing strikes but Bear manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!

Bear tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bear has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Gray regains half guard.

Gray kicks off Bear and gets to his feet.
Gray shoots and misses
and Bear counters with a three punch combo that has Gray backing up. Gray nods at Bear to acknowledge the strikes.
Gray tries to clinch but Bear is having none of it.
Bear throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Gray shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Gray with shots to the head and body - Bear looks very uncomfortable down there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bear takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bear in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Gray pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Gray misses with a head shot.
Gray lands a nice shot to the head.
Gray throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Gray fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Philip Gray comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gray has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
