Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Renegade! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Booker Saine! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Renegade closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Saine is trying to control Renegade's posture but Renegade avoids it. Renegade working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Renegade happy to just control the position for now. Renegade wants to control but Saine is keeping him busy. Renegade controlling from side mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Renegade trying to control the position but Saine is working away. Saine is trying to control Renegade's posture but Renegade avoids it. Renegade stands up and we're back to a striking position. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Saine checks a leg kick. Renegade gets the takedown into side control. Renegade is looking to take a break and control but Saine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Saine prevents Renegade from moving into mount. Saine struggling a bit here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Renegade throws an elbow but Saine slips to the side and avoids it well. The ground and pound from Renegade seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Saine struggling a bit here. Saine is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Renegade looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Saine moves into the clinch successfully.
Renegade manages to break the clinch.
Renegade avoids the body shot from Saine.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Renegade pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Saine tries to close the distance and clinch but Renegade swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Saine tries for a takedown but Renegade circles away easily and Renegade counters with a three punch combo that has Saine backing up. Saine nods at Renegade to acknowledge the strikes. Renegade is breathing heavily. Renegade fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Saine throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Renegade fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Renegade shoots in and drives through. Saine sprawls well. Renegade shoots and misses and Saine counters with a solid body kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Renegade. That's going to take a lot out of him. Saine drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Renegade is trying to control Saine's posture but Saine avoids it. Renegade manages to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Renegade is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Saine's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Saine's back! Good control from Renegade. Renegade is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Saine up.
Renegade has Saine flattened out and is raining down punches. Renegade really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Saine. Renegade is working for a rear naked choke. Saine is not defending it well and Renegade has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Saine refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Saine's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Robert Renegade!
