Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Robert Deby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Herb Fent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Robert Deby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Herb Fent!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Deby drives through and clinches with Fent against the cage.
Deby has Fent pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Fent manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Deby breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Deby drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Fent can't do much from the bottom here.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Fent has eaten all the pies!
Deby wants to control but Fent is keeping him busy.
Fent is trying to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Deby decides to stand up, so the ref orders Fent to his feet.
Horrible takedown by Fent or perhaps it was just good defense by Deby which made him look bad.

Deby shoots in and gets a takedown into Fent's guard.
Fent keeping moving, preventing Deby from controlling successfully.

Deby stands up and waves to Fent to follow him.
Fent will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Fent looks gassed!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fent tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Deby shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fent pinned against the cage. Fent gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Deby shoots in for a takedown but Fent shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Deby. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Deby fails with the takedown.
Fent tests Deby's chin there with a solid looking shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fent shoots and misses

and Deby counters with a shoot takedown. Fent fights it but they end up in guard.

Deby gets to his feet - Fent follows without any prompting.
Deby fails with a takedown attempt.
Fent swings for the body but Deby moves out of range.

Deby decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Deby is thwarting Fent's attempts to control the position.
Fent wants to control the action here but instead Deby manages to pass to full mount!

Deby controlling the position easily from mount.
Deby looking to finish Fent with some ground and pound. This is bad for Fent!
Deby will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Deby controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fent has given up his back here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Deby shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Deby was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Deby can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Fent is looking to escape.

Deby is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Fent has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Fent!
Fent must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Fent stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Deby swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Deby pulls Fent in close to prevent any damage.

Fent won't allow Deby to get back to his feet.
Deby controls Fent momentarily but Fent frees himself.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Robert Deby wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Deby tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fent sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Deby somewhat.
Fent tries to clinch but Deby is having none of it.
Fent stuffs the takedown attempt from Deby. Deby gets slowly back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Deby will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Deby. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fent keeps the fight on the outside.
Fent misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Deby fails with a takedown attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fent will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Deby shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Fent looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Deby is fending him off so far but Fent persists. Nope, Deby circles away and we're back to standing.
Fent closes the distance looking to clinch

and Deby counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Deby gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Deby fails to land the takedown.
Deby shoots for a takedown but Fent saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Deby leaves Fent with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Fent defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Deby.
Deby fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Fent avoids it really well and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Deby tries to keep at a distance but Fent has taken the fight into the clinch.

Fent pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Deby fails with a takedown attempt.
Fent shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Deby sprawls well. Deby wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Fent gets slowly back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fent tries to score a power double leg takedown but Deby sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Fent somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Fent shoots in looking for a takedown. Deby tries to sprawl out of it but Fent keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Deby manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Fent rushes Deby and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Deby jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Fent walks away with a smile on his face. Deby gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Fent doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Deby counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Deby postures up in Fent's guard and throws a big left but Fent blocks it.
Fent takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Deby gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Deby will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Fent just misses with a punch to the body.

Deby closes the distance and clinches.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Deby.

Deby escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Deby slips a jab and a cross from Fent.

Deby feints and as Fent raises his hands in defense, Deby changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Deby gets to his feet - Fent follows without any prompting.

Fent tries to sprawl but Deby drives through with a takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Deby stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Deby passes to side control.
The referee asks Deby politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Deby prefers to stall for the moment though.
Deby tries to advance to mount but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Deby stands up.

Deby shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Fent napping and manages to drive through into side control!
A control attempt from Fent but he's now mounted!
Deby looking to control and managing it successfully.
Deby seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fent for as long as he can get away with.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Deby manages to capitalize on a mistake by Fent to take his back!

And that's the end of the fight!
Robert Deby showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Deby, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
