PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Clark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Melvin Manhoef (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manhoef has chosen Killing In The Name as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Melvin Manhoef was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Clark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Melvin Manhoef!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clark is looking to clinch but Manhoef is avoiding it.
Manhoef tries to bum rush Clark with a series of wild strikes but Clark uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Manhoef misses with a two punch combination.
Danga de danga de dang - Clark scores with a four punch combination!
Clark getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Clark slips a jab and a cross from Manhoef.
Manhoef motions for Clark to come forward. Manhoef throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Manhoef throws a right hand that Clark ducks under and follows up with a left that Clark also avoids with ease.
Clark scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Clark feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Manhoefs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Clark clinches up against the cage.
Clark blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Clark scores with a shot to the side of Manhoef's head.
Manhoef wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Manhoef breaks from the clinch.
Manhoef lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.


It looks like Joe Clark has been cut.
Nice straight punches there by Clark. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Clark.
Clark lands with a good body shot.
Manhoef looks gassed!

Manhoef tries to keep at a distance but Clark has taken the fight into the clinch.
Manhoef can't break the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Clark working some nice short punches in the clinch.

Clark pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Clark closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Clark stalls.

Manhoef's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Clark moves out of range of the leg kick from Manhoef.
Manhoef misses with the combination.
Clark just misses with a punch to the body.
A bone on bone clash there as Clark blocks the leg kick.
Clark thuds his shin into the meat of Manhoef's side.

Clark drives through and clinches with Manhoef against the cage.
Manhoef is trying to break free.
A shot in the inside from Clark.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Manhoef is trying to push Clark away but Clark has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Manhoef missing with knees to the body.
Clark effectively controlling the action here.
Clark lands a left hand that snaps the head of Manhoef backwards.
Manhoef wants to break free but Clark has control.
Clark lands a nice uppercut.
Clark lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Manhoef backwards.
Clark keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Manhoef's efforts to push away.
Manhoef can't break the clinch.
Clark displaying some good clinch control by pressing Manhoef up against the cage.
Nice body punch from Clark.
Clark tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Manhoef's elbow.

Clark pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Clark fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Clark listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Clark works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.


Manhoef is rocked!
Clark finds Manhoef's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Manhoef flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Clark lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Manhoef will be OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Joe Clark!
