Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Earnest Knocks ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Antonio Rivera! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Sergei Dronov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rivera throws a right hand that Knocks ducks under and follows up with a left that Knocks also avoids with ease. Rivera fails in his attempt to clinch. Rivera checks a low kick from Knocks . Rivera throws a right hand that Knocks ducks under and follows up with a left that Knocks also avoids with ease. Rivera throws a sloppy head kick and Knocks moves out of range easily. Rivera checks a low kick from Knocks . Rivera doesn't manage to clinch there - Knocks circles away.
Antonio Rivera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rivera will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Rivera avoids the head kick by Knocks .
Rivera checks a leg kick nicely. Knocks throws a leg kick that misses. Knocks throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Knocks cracks the inside of Rivera's front leg. Knocks closes the distance and clinches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rivera tries to break the clinch but Knocks is controlling the position. Knocks has picked Rivera up - he's going for a ride! Knocks dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Knocks trying to mount his opponent but Rivera defends it. Knocks thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rivera's head. Rivera actively working from the bottom here. Rivera punching from the bottom.
Rivera is pressing down on Knocks 's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Knocks stays in close to Rivera's body and controls the position. Rivera looking for a guillotine here but Knocks defends easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rivera has his foot on Knocks 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Knocks works his way back into a safe position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rivera not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Knocks has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Rivera to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Knocks is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Rivera pulls down on the head and he's put Knocks to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Antonio Rivera!
