Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, George Klaster! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Phill Davis! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Sergei Dronov and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davis misses with the combination.
Klaster gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Klaster is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Klaster looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Davis scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Klaster working for a triangle but Davis defends it easily.
Davis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Davis postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Klaster working for a triangle but Davis defends it easily.
Davis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Klaster. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Davis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Klaster has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Davis has managed to get both his arms back between Klaster's legs - danger averted.
That's one minute gone in the round. Klaster looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Davis has picked Klaster up and slammed him! Klaster can't keep hold of the triangle and Davis manages to pass to side control! Klaster is breathing heavily. Klaster prevents Davis from moving into mount. Davis landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Davis cracks Klaster with a big elbow. Klaster is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Klaster sneaks back into half guard. Well, if Davis is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Davis is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. This has been an exciting period of action! Davis winds up and cracks Klaster with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Klaster trying to control but Davis postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Davis slips a nice elbow through Klaster's hands, connecting with Klaster's forehead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Klaster is refusing to be controlled, as Davis sits in half guard. Davis working over Klaster with some ground and pound. Klaster looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Davis winds up and cracks Klaster with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Klaster wants to improve his position but Davis is controlling well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Davis uses his free foot to push down on Klaster's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Klaster. Klaster taking shots to the head. Davis is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Klaster has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Klaster tries to hold on but Davis pushes him away. Klaster is bucking up trying to escape but Davis cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Davis looking to control but Klaster is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Klaster is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Klaster is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Klaster is trying to escape the mount.
Davis cracks Klaster with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Klaster regains half guard. Davis content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Klaster is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Davis pulls his head out easily. Davis lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Davis is looking to take a break and control but Klaster is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Klaster wants to control the action here but instead Davis manages to pass to full mount!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Davis avoids the attempt from Klaster to control. Davis raining down shots from the mount!
It looks like George Klaster has been cut. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Davis scoring with strikes but Klaster is staying in there.
Klaster is rocked!
George Klaster's cut is getting worse. Klaster tries to hold on but Davis pushes him away. Davis lands a heavy elbow. Oh Klaster is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
George Klaster's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at George Klaster's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
