Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Markakis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex Johnson! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Markakis instigates a clinch. Johnson looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Markakis leaning against his opponent.
Markakis pulls Johnson into guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Markakis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Johnson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Markakis is keeping the position for now. Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Markakis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Johnson keeping full guard, as Markakis tries to pass. Johnson working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Markakis has passed into half guard!

That's one minute gone in the round. Markakis stands up and beckons Johnson to join him on the feet. Markakis throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Johnson was covering up waiting for the punch and Markakis finishes the takedown easily into guard. Markakis decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson slips a jab and a cross from Markakis.
Markakis decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Johnson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Markakis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Markakis passes the guard and advances to mount! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Markakis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Markakis raining down hammerfists from mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Markakis fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Markakis scoring with strikes but Johnson is staying in there. Johnson is trying to reverse the position but instead Markakis has taken his back - oops! The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Markakis lands shots from the back. Johnson won't enjoy being in this position. Markakis looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Johnson is tapping - it's over boys! Markakis picks up the submission victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Nick Markakis!
