Franklin comes to the ring accompanied by I Need a Doctor. Rich Franklin had a look across the ring there at his opponent. He definitely means business

5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hanamichi Sakuragi!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sakuragi has taken the fight to the clinch.
Franklin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sakuragi avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Franklin tightens his grip and picks Sakuragi up, before dumping him to the ground. Sakuragi manages to land in guard.
Franklin wants to get up but he can't break Sakuragi's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Sakuragi wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Franklin suckers Sakuragi into throwing a sloppy strike and uses the momentum to reverse the position beautifully! Franklin is now in Sakuragi's guard!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sakuragi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Franklin drops back looking for a leg! Sakuragi is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sakuragi manages to kick Franklin off! Franklin jumps back into Sakuragi's guard.

Franklin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sakuragi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Franklin somewhat.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Franklin shoots in for a takedown but Sakuragi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Sakuragi clinches up with Franklin and pushes him back against the ropes.

Franklin blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Sakuragi has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Franklin clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Sakuragi is striking well from the back but Franklin escapes and manages to control the positon and works his way to half guard. A much better position - the crisis is over for the time being.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Franklin stands and throws Sakuragi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Franklin wants to control but Sakuragi is keeping him busy.
Franklin is working to tighten is grip on Sakuragi's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Sakuragi has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Franklin is really squeezing tight and eventually Sakuragi passes out! Franklin breaks the hold and jumps onto the ropes to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
