PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Alexander (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Henderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Dan Henderson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fred Alexander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dan Henderson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Matheus Silva and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alexander takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
A combination from Henderson does no damage.
Henderson ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Alexander fails in his attempt to clinch.
Henderson tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Alexander fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Henderson avoids it really well and circles away.
Henderson works over Alexander's head and body with a nice combination.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Henderson throws a right and a left that both miss.
Alexander shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Henderson as he jumps to the side.
Alexander fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fred Alexander. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Henderson throws a right hand that Alexander ducks under and follows up with a left that Alexander also avoids with ease.
Henderson cracks Alexander with a good jab.
Alexander dives in and grabs Henderson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Henderson pushes down on Alexander's head and hops out.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Alexander feints and as Henderson raises his hands in defense, Alexander changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Alexander is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Henderson has Alexander pulled in close to control his posture.

Fred Alexander has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Henderson throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Alexander clinches with his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alexander keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Henderson's efforts to push away.
Alexander drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Henderson gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Henderson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Henderson is trying to push Alexander away but Alexander has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Henderson is trying to break free.
Henderson is trying to force a seperation but Alexander has the dominant position.

Alexander tightens his grip and picks Henderson up, before dumping him to the ground. Henderson manages to land in guard.
Alexander will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Henderson is pulling down on Alexander's head to control his posture.
Alexander trying to control the position from guard on top but Henderson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Henderson wants to stand up but Alexander is controlling him.
Henderson keeping moving, preventing Alexander from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Henderson wants to stand and escape but Alexander is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Fred Alexander.
Henderson swinging wildly here.
Alexander shoots in and drives through. Henderson sprawls well.

Alexander throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Henderson was covering up waiting for the punch and Alexander finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Alexander wants to pass the guard but Henderson is keeping the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Henderson keeping moving, preventing Alexander from controlling successfully.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Henderson dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Henderson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Alexander.

Alexander moves into the clinch.
Henderson misses with some punches.
Henderson is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Alexander tries to score a body lock takedown but Henderson shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Alexander has Henderson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Henderson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Alexander manages to break the clinch.

Henderson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Alexander circles away quickly and effectively.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Henderson!
Alexander fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fred Alexander. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Henderson throws a series of punches but Alexander avoids them all with ease.
A clash of legs there as Alexander blocks the low kick.
Henderson throws a front kick aimed at Alexander's knee but Alexander avoids it well.
Henderson lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Henderson.
Dan Henderson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Alexander pushes Henderson up against the cage in a clinch.

Alexander breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Alexander fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Henderson avoids it really well and circles away.
Good shot there by Henderson.
Alexander tries to close the distance and clinch but Henderson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Henderson misses with a jab, cross combination.
