PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Shrimp McGimp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Blanket Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackson has chosen Bad as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Blanket Jackson!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGimp throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Shrimp McGimp seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jackson moves out of range of the leg kick from McGimp.

McGimp shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than McGimp was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jackson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Jackson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Jackson is trying to reverse the position but instead McGimp has taken his back - oops!
Jackson turns into McGimp and is now in his guard.

McGimp had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Jackson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. McGimp Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jackson's back instead.
You can see the frustration on Jackson's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Jackson prevents McGimp from getting a body triangle.
McGimp punishes Jackson with strikes from the back mount.
Good control from McGimp.
Jackson tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Jackson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
McGimp could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

McGimp seems to be looking for submissions.
McGimp is controlling the pace.
Jackson is looking for a sweep. McGimp is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
McGimp with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Jackson looks gassed!
Jackson makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jackson.
McGimp controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McGimp slips nicely into half guard.
McGimp wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jackson keeps working.

Jackson actively working from the bottom here.

McGimp is controlling the pace.
Jackson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Jackson moves into full guard.
Jackson wants to sweep but no luck.

McGimp avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jackson is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jackson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jackson has gone for a leg lock! McGimp slips out almost immediately though and dives into Jackson's guard.
McGimp slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
McGimp wants to pass the guard but Jackson is keeping the position.

Jackson is looking for a triangle but McGimp pushes his legs off easily.
Jackson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Shrimp McGimp will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Jackson with a poor takedown

so McGimp counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
McGimp trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
McGimp not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
McGimp trying to control but Jackson is working from the bottom.
McGimp is looking to work some ground and pound but Jackson has wrist control.

Jackson wants to sweep here but McGimp controlling him for the moment.
McGimp wants to stand and escape but instead Jackson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Jackson advances to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jackson wants to free his trapped foot but McGimp is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Jackson is trying to work for a kimura but McGimp is defending well.
Jackson looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Jackson wants to work for an arm triangle but McGimp is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
McGimp is looking to control Jackson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McGimp avoid being mounted?

McGimp is defending against the submission attempts here by Jackson.
Jackson is pressing down on McGimp's thigh, looking to free his foot. McGimp is holding on for now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A head kick misses from McGimp.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
McGimp keeps the fight on the outside.
McGimp rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jackson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
McGimp tries to clinch there but Jackson circles away.
Shrimp McGimp is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
McGimp fails with the takedown
and Jackson counters with a head kick. That will keep McGimp thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
McGimp throws a head kick that misses
and Jackson counters with a two punch combo.

McGimp changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jackson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
McGimp tries to move to mount but Jackson blocks the move with his legs.
Jackson manages to get back to half guard.
Jackson is trying to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McGimp looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Jackson looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Shrimp McGimp overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McGimp controlling the action here.
McGimp tries to pass to full mount but Jackson defends it.
McGimp not doing much here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The fighters are battling for position here. Jackson manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
McGimp trying to control but Jackson is working from the bottom.

McGimp is taking a breather. Jackson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
McGimp is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Jackson wants to get back to full guard but McGimp has passed into side control.

McGimp has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Jackson is forced to tap!
