PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dean Walsh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryuhaku Todoh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dean Walsh had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dean Walsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ryuhaku Todoh!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Todoh gets the takedown into side control.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Todoh laying and praying for a moment but Walsh takes advantage and regains half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Todoh in particular looking to stall.

Todoh is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Walsh is just riding it out for now. Todoh eventually gives up the hold.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Todoh seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Walsh is trying to control but can't.

Todoh is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Walsh doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Todoh.
Todoh stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Todoh seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Walsh does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Todoh wants to pass to mount but Walsh is defending the position.
Todoh is looking to stall here but Walsh recovers full guard.
Todoh's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ryuhaku Todoh hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Todoh tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Todoh moves into the clinch.
Walsh jumps guard but Todoh stands there with Walsh around his waist. Walsh gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Todoh stalling in the clinch.
Todoh lands an elbow just above Walsh 's eye.
Walsh takes an elbow to the temple.
Walsh tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Todoh tries a body shot but Walsh blocks it.
Walsh tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Todoh just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dean Walsh. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Todoh breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Todoh stuffs the takedown attempt from Walsh. Walsh gets slowly back to his feet.
Walsh avoids the head kick by Todoh.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Walsh closes this distance looking for a takedown but Todoh circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Walsh.
Walsh will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Todoh closes the distance and pushes Walsh back into the cage.
Walsh tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Walsh jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Todoh walks away with a smile on his face. Walsh gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Todoh rushes Walsh and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Todoh's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Walsh tries to keep at a distance but Todoh has taken the fight into the clinch.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nice elbow from Todoh.
Todoh lands an elbow just above Walsh 's eye.
Todoh tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryuhaku Todoh dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Walsh throws out a leg kick but Todoh moves out of range and Walsh only half commits.
Todoh misses the shot to the body.

Todoh closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Todoh is looking to take a break and control but Walsh is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Todoh taking a breather here.
Walsh is looking for a sweep.

Todoh tries for a kimura but Walsh is defending well.
Todoh slows the pace down.
Todoh trying to control the position but Walsh is working away.

Todoh is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Walsh is trying to escape and Todoh transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Walsh is forced to tap! Nice work there by Todoh! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ryuhaku Todoh!
Ryuhaku Todoh bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
