0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vladislav Emperor! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Badeux throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Vladislav Emperor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Badeux tries to close the distance and clinch but Emperor swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Badeux stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Badeux wants it to stay on the feet. Badeux changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Emperor looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Badeux in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Badeux throwing shots but missing, from side control. Emperor is looking for a sweep. Badeux is trying to ground and pound but Emperor uses the momentary lack of control by Badeux to regain half guard. Emperor trying to control but Badeux postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Badeux with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Emperor is looking for a sweep. Badeux is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Emperor looks gassed! Badeux is looking to pass Emperor's guard but actually Emperor recovers to full guard. Badeux throws and elbow that misses. Emperor uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Badeux's guard. Nice move by Emperor! Badeux wants to hit a switch here but Emperor passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Badeux there!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Badeux is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Badeux is squirming around, avoiding Emperor's attempts to control the action. Badeux working to try and regain half guard.
Emperor avoids the attempt from Badeux to control. Badeux is desperately trying to improve his position but Emperor has a good base and remains in mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Badeux tries to lock up and control but Emperor gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Emperor prevents Badeux from getting the reversal. Badeux wants to control but Emperor is having none of it. Badeux is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Badeux is working hard here to advance position. Badeux tries to hold on but Emperor pushes him away. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Badeux is working to get back to half guard.

Emperor walks forward, straight into a front kick from Badeux. Badeux shoots in but Emperor avoids the takedown attempt easily. Emperor fails in his attempt to clinch. Badeux misses with a jab, cross combination.
Badeux feints and as Emperor raises his hands in defense, Badeux changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Badeux thows a big elbow that misses. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Badeux accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Badeux trying to control the position from guard on top but Emperor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Emperor is breathing heavily. Emperor keeping full guard, as Badeux tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round. Badeux is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Badeux showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Badeux knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Emperor on the ground. Emperor keeping full guard, as Badeux tries to pass. John Paul Badeux overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Emperor wants to stand up but Badeux is controlling him. Badeux pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Emperor is keeping the position for now.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Badeux closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Badeux tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Badeux in side control, throwing shots but Emperor defends. Badeux tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Badeux is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Emperor is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Sloppy strikes there by Badeux. Emperor tries to bench press Badeux off him but Badeux keeps the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Badeux working the ground and pound but Emperor is defending the strikes. Badeux thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Badeux is chipping away with strikes.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Badeux throws a strike aimed at the side of Emperor's head but Emperor avoids it well. Badeux decides to stand back up. Badeux steps back and let's Emperor get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Badeux feints and then cracks Emperor's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Emperor down. Nice takedown defense from Emperor. No joy for Badeux on that attempt. Badeux fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Emperor to the ground. Badeux is now in Emperor's guard. Badeux trying to control the position from guard on top but Emperor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Badeux looking to pass the guard. Badeux has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Emperor takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emperor is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref stands the fighters back up. John Paul Badeux wasn't doing enough on the ground. Badeux throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Emperor's head. Badeux moves into the clinch successfully.

Emperor is fighting off a takedown attempt but Badeux is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Emperor to the mat. Emperor regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Badeux looking to pass the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Emperor working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Badeux.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Emperor keeping full guard, as Badeux tries to pass. Badeux is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Badeux seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Emperor for as long as he can get away with. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of John Paul Badeux. Badeux throws a head kick that half lands.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Badeux scores a takedown into full mount! Emperor wants to control but Badeux is having none of it. Badeux is looking to work his way around to Emperor's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position. Badeux controlling his opponent. Badeux swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
