Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Matrix!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Geese Howard!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Eliza Hachem and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howard tries to clinch up.
Howard tries to clinch there but Matrix circles away.
Howard will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Howard tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Matrix was well out of range. Poor timing from Howard.
Matrix throws a right hand that Howard ducks under and follows up with a left that Howard also avoids with ease.
Howard moves forwards but Matrix connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Howard moves out of range of the strikes.
Matrix ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Matrix drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Howard wants to control but Matrix postures up.
Howard manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Howard gets back to full guard.
Howard is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Matrix is aware though and is defending well.
Matrix controls from within his opponent's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Howard is looking for a triangle here but Matrix uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Howard gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Howard slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Howard looking for a triangle here. Matrix is fighting it but it looks tight! Howard pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Matrix is tapping out - this one is all over!
