PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Steev Izzerman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Mills (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mills has chosen Feel so Numb by Rob Zombie as his entrance music. David Mills will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Steev Izzerman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Mills!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mills pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Mills feints and then cracks Izzerman's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Izzerman down.
Mills throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Izzerman takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Mills throws a head kick that Izzerman semi-blocks.


It looks like Steev Izzerman has been cut.

Izzerman scores a takedown into full mount!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Mills tries to reverse the position but Izzerman maintains control.
Izzerman controlling the pace for now.
Izzerman seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mills for as long as he can get away with.

Izzerman is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Mills to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Mills shrugs it off.

Izzerman wants to control the pace but Mills is squirming around nicely.

Izzerman has hold of Mills's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Mills manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Mills is looking to improve his position but Izzerman isn't that keen on the idea.
Mills really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Izzerman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Izzerman is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Mills can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Izzerman goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Mills turns into him and now he's in Izzerman's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Izzerman is pulling down on Mills's head. It's preventing any offense from Mills, at least for the moment.
Mills must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Izzerman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Izzerman keeping moving, preventing Mills from controlling successfully.
Izzerman is adopting a defensive guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Izzerman controls Mills momentarily but Mills frees himself.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. David Mills wasn't active enough on the ground.
Mills scores with a head kick. Izzerman tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
A slapping leg kick lands for Mills.
Izzerman blocks the body kick.
Mills is looking to slow Izzerman down with leg kicks.
Mills connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Mills throws a lazy right hand but Izzerman sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Izzerman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Mills avoids it really well and circles away.

Izzerman shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mills napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Izzerman is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mills knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mills tries to get back to half guard but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Steev Izzerman will probably get the nod.

Mills throws a front kick that sends Izzerman stumbling back into the cage.
Mills lands a nice looking kick to the body. Izzerman takes a step back to recover.
Mills misses with a head kick.
Izzerman has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Mills.
Mills throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Izzerman's head.
Mills lands a leg kick that knocks Izzerman off balance momentarily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Mills connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Izzerman momentarily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Mills. Izzerman does a little dance to reset his feet.

Izzerman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mills but Mills pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Izzerman tries for a takedown but Mills sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Mills throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mills fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Izzerman has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Mills lands with a kick to the temple. Izzerman shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Mills ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Izzerman moves away.
Mills misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Izzerman avoids the head kick by Mills.
A solid leg kick lands there for Mills.

Mills throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Izzerman.
Mills throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Izzerman walks forward, straight into a front kick from Mills.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mills looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
David Mills is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A head kick from Mills lands but Izzerman takes it in his stride.
David Mills is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Mills throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Izzerman's head.
Mills missing with a left hand there. Izzerman was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Steev Izzerman's cut is getting worse.
Mills stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mills wants it to stay on the feet.

Mills with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Izzerman blocks a head kick by Mills.
Izzerman stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Mills.
Izzerman uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Mills.
Izzerman shoots for a takedown but Mills saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Mills throws a head kick but Izzerman moves out of range.
Izzerman takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Mills fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Izzerman.

Mills throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
David Mills seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Izzerman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mills buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Mills swats away the attempt to clinch by Izzerman.
Izzerman on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Izzerman feints and as Mills raises his hands in defense, Izzerman changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Mills showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mills is trying to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Izzerman is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mills is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
