Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nick Markakis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruiz has chosen La Bamba as his entrance music. Nick Markakis has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruiz drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Ruiz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ruiz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Markakis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ruiz has managed to get both his arms back between Markakis's legs - danger averted.

Ruiz shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Markakis manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Markakis has his foot on Ruiz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ruiz works his way back into a safe position though.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Alexander Ruiz wasn't active enough on the ground.
Ruiz shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Markakis napping and manages to drive through into side control!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee asks Ruiz politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ruiz prefers to stall for the moment though.
It looks like Ruiz might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
