PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pasha Dasari (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julio Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dasari comes into the arena with Stinkfist blaring out of the sound system. On his way into the cage it seems that Pasha Dasari has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Pasha Dasari seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pasha Dasari!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Julio Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Luis Engracia and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dasari checks a low kick from Mendez.
Mendez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Mendez misses with a kick to the body.

Mendez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dasari is looking for a sweep.
Dasari wants to control but Mendez postures up.
Dasari tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Mendez presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Dasari slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Dasari works his way to full guard. Good work.
Dasari manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mendez manages to get himself to full guard.
Mendez wants to stand and escape but Dasari is having none of it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dasari seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mendez for as long as he can get away with.
Dasari throwing strikes from guard but Mendez blocks nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Dasari drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mendez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mendez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mendez!
Mendez wants to control but Dasari is keeping him busy.

Mendez decides to stand up, so the ref orders Dasari to his feet.
Mendez tries for a takedown but Dasari sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Dasari shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mendez's guard.
Dasari controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Dasari drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Mendez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Dasari has Mendez in his guard.

Dasari is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Mendez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Mendez wants to pass the guard but Dasari is keeping the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Dasari is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Mendez is looking to escape.
Mendez looks gassed!

Dasari is looking for a kimura but Mendez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dasari to get the leverage.
Mendez wants to control the action here but instead Dasari manages to pass to full mount!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendez is working to get back to half guard.
Dasari pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Mendez takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Dasari controlling the pace for now.
Dasari moves to the back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dasari keeps control of the position easily here as Mendez tries to buck him off.
Dasari is controlling the position but Mendez somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Mendez wants to control but Dasari is keeping busy.
Dasari has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Mendez tries to reverse the position but Dasari maintains control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pasha Dasari dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Dasari moves out of range of the body kick from Mendez.
Dasari doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Mendez counters with a single leg into guard. Dasari didn't expect that.

Dasari is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Dasari is looking for a triangle here but Mendez uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Mendez is looking to take a break and control but Dasari is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Dasari is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Mendez is breathing heavily.

Dasari manages to get back to half guard.

Dasari regains full guard. Nicely done.
Dasari looking to control.

Dasari looking for a guillotine here but Mendez defends easily.

Dasari working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mendez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mendez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mendez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dasari swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Pasha Dasari overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Dasari is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Mendez rolls with it to try and escape but Dasari cranks on the arm and Mendez is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Pasha Dasari!
