The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newton has his takedown stuffed
and Pele counters with a nice kick to the body.
Newton uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pele.
Newton fails with the takedown
and Pele makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Pele looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Pele throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Newton.
A head kick misses from Pele.

Newton misses with a takedown
and Pele counters with a big head kick but Newton shrugs it off.
Luka Pele has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gop Newton.

Newton closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Pele's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pele utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Newton prevents Pele from getting back to his feet.
Newton tries to free his leg and advance position but Pele is retaining full guard.

Newton postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pele is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Newton, into his guard.

Newton has his foot on Pele's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Pele works his way back into a safe position though.
Pele is looking to stand up but Newton won't let him.

Pele stands and steps away. Newton gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Pele tried to score with a low kick but Newton checks it.

and Pele connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Gop Newton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Newton shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pele as he jumps to the side.

Pele throws a right hand that Newton ducks under and follows up with a left that Newton also avoids with ease.
Pele buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Newton.

and Pele counters with a series of strikes. Newton will be more careful next time no doubt.
Pele swings for the body but Newton moves out of range.
Newton dives in and grabs Pele's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pele pushes down on Newton's head and hops out.

and Pele counters with a big head kick but Newton shrugs it off.

Luka Pele is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Pele.
Newton doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Pele counters with a three punch combo that has Newton backing up. Newton nods at Pele to acknowledge the strikes.
Newton is still on wobbly legs! Can Pele finish him?
Pele lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Newton circles away quickly and effectively.
Newton has his takedown stuffed
and Pele counters with a head kick that wobbles Newton - left then right he sways and one more bomb from Pele sends him down. This one is all over!
