Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cole Nelson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vladimir Makarov! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Columbo Gatti and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nelson looks for a takedown but Makarov sprawls well. Nelson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Makarov sprawls well. Makarov wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nelson gets slowly back to his feet. Nelson drives through with a takedown into guard. Nelson postures up in Makarov's guard and throws a big left but Makarov blocks it. Makarov pulls Nelson in close to prevent any damage. Nelson with a flurry of punches that miss. Nelson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Makarov's head. Makarov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nelson is one step ahead there. Nelson distracts Makarov with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Makarov trying to keep a closed guard but Nelson is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Makarov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Makarov working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Nelson. Makarov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nelson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Nelson with a flurry of punches that miss. Nelson is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Nelson is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Makarov looking to control.
Nelson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Makarov's head. Nelson postures up and lands a big shot to Makarov's brow. Nelson throws and elbow that misses. Makarov uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Nelson's guard. Nice move by Makarov! Makarov is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Nelson has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Makarov is looking to defend but Nelson has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Makarov! Nelson pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Makarov taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Cole Nelson!
