Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bret McKenzie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Kopylov!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kopylov throws a sloppy head kick
and McKenzie counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McKenzie wants to pass to mount but Kopylov is defending the position.
Kopylov is looking to escape.
McKenzie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kopylov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kopylov kicks McKenzie off and gets back to his feet.
McKenzie thows a left - swing and a miss!
Kopylov throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kopylov throws a combination that misses
and McKenzie counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McKenzie slips a jab and a cross from Kopylov.
Kopylov throws an off balance right hand
and McKenzie makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
McKenzie uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
It looks like Vladimir Kopylov has been cut.
Kopylov throws an uppercut from half a mile away. McKenzie sees it coming and avoids it easily.
McKenzie misses with a body shot.
That's one minute gone in the round.
A looping hook to the body misses from McKenzie. Kopylov does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kopylov tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but McKenzie was well out of range. Poor timing from Kopylov.
A jab from McKenzie does it's job there.
McKenzie throws a good cross that connects.
Kopylov is rocked!
Kopylov tries to get into range but McKenzie steps to the side and lands a beautiful hook that drops Kopylov! He's faceplanted into the mat, ass in the air... he's out cold! That's an image he won't want to show his grandkids when he gets older! McKenzie scores the big KO victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Bret McKenzie!
