Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mixalis Pavlis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dmitriy Bashkin! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Tarja Halkonen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pavlis darts in and clinches Bashkin up against the cage. Bashkin looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Bashkin has had enough of the clinch but Pavlis keeps him there for the moment. Bashkin looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Bashkin tries to break the clinch but Pavlis is controlling the position. Pavlis has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Bashkin avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Pavlis slows down the pace here.
Pavlis is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Bashkin gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Pavlis has Bashkin pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Bashkin manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mixalis Pavlis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bashkin is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Pavlis is defending well for now. Pavlis tries for a takedown but Bashkin manages to get underhooks.

That's one minute gone in the round. Bashkin tries to circle away but Pavlis has him pinned against the cage. Pavlis is trying to drag Bashkin to the mat but Bashkin just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Pavlis tries to score a body lock takedown but Bashkin shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Pavlis is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Bashkin gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Bashkin wants to break the clinch but can't.

Pavlis is working for takedown but Bashkin is calmly controlling the position for now. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Bashkin misses with a knee strike.
Pavlis gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Pavlis wants to stand but Bashkin has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pavlis won't allow Bashkin to get back to his feet. Pavlis stands up from guard. Let's bang! Dmitriy Bashkin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Bashkin stuffs the takedown attempt from Pavlis. Pavlis gets slowly back to his feet. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Pavlis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Bashkin defends it nicely. Nice takedown defense from Bashkin. No joy for Pavlis on that attempt. Pavlis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bashkin paws at him with a jab and circles away. Bashkin gets caught napping as Pavlis dives in and scores a takedown. Bashkin manages to retain guard. Bashkin keeping moving, preventing Pavlis from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bashkin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pavlis is controlling him. Pavlis trying to control the position from guard on top but Bashkin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pavlis prevents Bashkin from getting back to his feet. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Bashkin keeping moving, preventing Pavlis from controlling successfully.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mixalis Pavlis. Pavlis shoots in for a double leg but Bashkin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Pavlis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bashkin tries to avoid it but Pavlis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bashkin to the ground. Bashkin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Pavlis tries for a takedown but Bashkin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Bashkin closes the distance and lands a one-two. Pavlis shoots for a takedown but Bashkin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Bashkin fails to land with a series of punches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bashkin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pavlis. Dmitriy Bashkin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Pavlis shoots in but Bashkin avoids the takedown attempt easily. Bashkin misses with a few strikes there.

Nice takedown defense from Bashkin. No joy for Pavlis on that attempt. Bashkin stuffs the takedown attempt from Pavlis. Pavlis gets slowly back to his feet. Bashkin throws a sloppy head kick and Pavlis holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Bashkin is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. This has been an exciting period of action! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Pavlis gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Pavlis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bashkin swivels though and keeps the full guard. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Pavlis is working hard here to advance position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mixalis Pavlis dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Bashkin throws a right and a left that both miss. The fight stays on the outside here - Bashkin looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Bashkin throws a head kick but Pavlis moves out of range.
Pavlis is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bashkin sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Pavlis shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pavlis decides to stand and escape the position. Pavlis manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bashkin on his heels. He'll look to pass Bashkin's guard now, I'm sure. Pavlis stands up and waves to Bashkin to follow him. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pavlis has taken the fight to the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pavlis drops down looking for an ankle pick but Bashkin pulls his leg out and moves away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Pavlis throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bashkin tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pavlis is in Bashkin's guard. Bashkin pushes Pavlis off and scrambles back to his feet.

Pavlis fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mixalis Pavlis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pavlis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Bashkin tries to bum rush Pavlis with a series of wild strikes but Pavlis uses good footwork to avoid the assault. We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Bashkin in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off. Pavlis misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bashkin.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bashkin wants to stand but Pavlis is controlling the position. Pavlis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Pavlis looks for a takedown but Bashkin sprawls well. Bashkin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Pavlis. Bashkin throws a right hand that Pavlis ducks under and follows up with a left that Pavlis also avoids with ease. Horrible takedown by Pavlis or perhaps it was just good defense by Bashkin which made him look bad. Bashkin rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pavlis moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bashkin throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Pavlis shoots in but Bashkin avoids the takedown attempt easily. Pavlis thuds his shin into the meat of Bashkin's side. Pavlis shoots for a double leg takedown but Bashkin sprawls well. He's pushed Pavlis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Bashkin throws a right and a left that both miss. Pavlis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Bashkin pinned against the cage. Bashkin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Bashkin forces Pavlis back against the cage and clinches. Pavlis turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Pavlis decides to stand back up. Dmitriy Bashkin seems to be getting the better of the standup.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pavlis rushes Bashkin and presses him up against the cage. Bashkin is pressed up against the cage. Pavlis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bashkin down to the mat. Bashkin avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Bashkin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pavlis circles away quickly and effectively. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Bashkin tries to clinch up. Bashkin gets tackled into the cage by Pavlis. Pavlis maintains the clinch. Pavlis turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Pavlis manages to end up in side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bashkin is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Pavlis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bashkin keeps working. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Pavlis decides to stand back up. Pavlis steps back and let's Bashkin get back to his feet. No luck for Pavlis with that takedown attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mixalis Pavlis dominated that second round. That's time! Pavlis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Pavlis shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Bashkin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Pavlis prevents Bashkin from getting back to his feet. Pavlis is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Pavlis landing some decent shots from guard. Pavlis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bashkin swivels though and keeps the full guard. Pavlis trying to stand up but can't free himself from Bashkin's guard. Pavlis sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bashkin's guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Pavlis is trying to control the action in half guard but Bashkin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pavlis with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Bashkin wants to get back to his feet.
Bashkin is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Pavlis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bashkin keeps working. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Pavlis tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Mixalis Pavlis has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. No luck for Pavlis with that takedown attempt. No joy there for Bashkin, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Pavlis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bashkin pushes Pavlis away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Pavlis gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pavlis decides to stand up, so the ref orders Bashkin to his feet. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pavlis wants to clinch up but Bashkin keeps it at a distance. Bashkin throws a head kick that misses and Pavlis counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pavlis. Pavlis drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Pavlis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bashkin just stands there and leans against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mixalis Pavlis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Pavlis is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Bashkin gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Bashkin wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Pavlis drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Bashkin gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bashkin tries to circle away but Pavlis has him pinned against the cage. Pavlis can't get the takedown.
Mixalis Pavlis has scored more points in the clinch so far. Pavlis ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Pavlis no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Bashkin stands and steps away. Pavlis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Bashkin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Pavlis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bashkin's waist but Bashkin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pavlis off to one side. Pavlis shoots in but no luck this time. Pavlis tries for a takedown but Bashkin circles away easily and Bashkin counters with a flying knee. Nice. Bashkin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pavlis to score an easy takedown into full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bashkin is looking to stand up but Pavlis isn't so interested in that idea. Bashkin keeping full guard, as Pavlis tries to pass. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Pavlis stops Bashkin from standing up. Bashkin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Pavlis controls the pace. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mixalis Pavlis. Nice uppercut there from Bashkin. Dmitriy Bashkin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Mixalis Pavlis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Pavlis scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
And that's the end of the fight! Mixalis Pavlis showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pavlis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
