Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Peter Stevenson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pablo Alves! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves fails with a takedown attempt. Stevenson rushes Alves and presses him up against the cage. Stevenson breaks from the clinch.
Stevenson misses the jab. Stevenson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Pablo Alves seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Stevenson scores with a push kick. Stevenson walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Alves checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Alves shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stevenson pinned against the cage. Stevenson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Stevenson misses with a low kick. Stevenson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Alves manages to avoid it. Alves tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Stevenson throws a chopping leg kick but Alves manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Stevenson misses with a body kick. Alves misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Peter Stevenson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pablo Alves.
That's one minute gone in the round. No luck for Alves with that takedown attempt. Stevenson closes the distance and clinches. Stevenson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Peter Stevenson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Stevenson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Alves shoots in and drives through. Stevenson sprawls well. Alves shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stevenson as he avoids it easily. Stevenson clinches with his opponent.
Stevenson breaks the clinch.
Stevenson clinches up with Alves and pushes him back against the cage. Stevenson has Alves pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Stevenson pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Alves tumbling to the mat - Stevenson dives into Alves's guard. Stevenson passes Alves's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Alves is looking to improve his position.
Alves looks gassed! Alves works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Stevenson has his hands clasped together but Alves extends an breaks Stevenson's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Alves.
