Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mason Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Van Helgen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dixon comes into the arena with It's A Fight by Three 6 Mafia blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Edward Van Helgen! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Emerson Jorge and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Van Helgen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Dixon was well out of range. Poor timing from Van Helgen. Dixon avoids the head kick by Van Helgen.

It looks like Mason Dixon has been cut. Van Helgen darts in trying to clinch and Dixon counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Van Helgen thinking. Van Helgen is looking to clinch. Van Helgen throws out a loose jab but Dixon uses good head movement to avoid it. Dixon circles away from the clinch attempt.
Dixon fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Van Helgen manages to avoid it. Dixon blocks a head kick by Van Helgen.
Dixon darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Van Helgen gets back to full guard.
Dixon tries to stand but Van Helgen is controlling from the bottom. Dixon is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Van Helgen is looking for a triangle but Dixon pushes his legs off easily.
Dixon sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Van Helgen's guard. Dixon not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Van Helgen is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Dixon throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dixon seems to be looking for submissions.
Dixon wants to work for an arm triangle but Van Helgen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Dixon is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Van Helgen to slip a leg under and get back to full guard. Van Helgen working for a triangle but Dixon defends it easily.
Dixon avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Dixon wants to control from the top but Van Helgen keeps moving. Dixon got a little sloppy there for a moment and Van Helgen has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dixon has managed to get both his arms back between Van Helgen's legs - danger averted. Dixon throwing strikes from guard but Van Helgen blocks nicely. Dixon tries to free his leg and advance position but Van Helgen is retaining full guard. Dixon slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Van Helgen is trying to get back to half guard. Dixon has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Dixon throwing shots but missing, from side control. Dixon lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Dixon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Van Helgen keeps working. Dixon wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Van Helgen, who protects the arm well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Van Helgen is working to avoid the ground and pound but Dixon connects with a decent elbow. Dixon looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Van Helgen is looking to reverse the position. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Dixon wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Van Helgen, who protects the arm well. Dixon in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Van Helgen is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
