PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Eldar Jah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Waters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eldar Jah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Luke Waters!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jah misses with a hook.
Jah swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Waters.

Jah clinches up with Waters and pushes him back against the cage.
Waters connects with a nasty looking knee right to Jah's face.


It looks like Eldar Jah has been cut.
Waters is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Jah is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Jah misses with an elbow over the top.
Jah throws an elbow that misses.
Waters lands a nice elbow.
Jah is pressed up against the cage. Waters has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jah down to the mat. Jah avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Jah connects with a body shot.

Jah fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Waters, pushing him back against the cage.
Waters blocks an uppercut.
Waters looking for a takedown.
Jah tries a knee to the head but Waters blocks it.
Jah has had enough of the clinch but Waters keeps him there for the moment.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Waters misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Jah.

Waters wants a takedown but no success here.
Eldar Jah has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Waters.

Jah misses with a hook from the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Jah creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Jah lands a left hand.
Jah throws a knee to the head but misses.
Jah has a couple of punches blocked by Waters.
Jah throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Waters blocks the elbow strike.
Jah lands a shoulder strike.

Waters tightens his grip and picks Jah up, before dumping him to the ground. Jah manages to land in guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Jah throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Jah looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jah is looking for a triangle here but Waters uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jah sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Jah looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Jah is looking for a sweep. Waters is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jah is working hard here to advance position.

Jah is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Waters pulls his head out easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Waters tries to stand and escape but Jah is controlling the position.
Waters is trying to control the action in half guard but Jah is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Jah is trying to escape back to his feet but Waters uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Waters wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jah keeps working.
Jah tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Waters wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Jah wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Jah could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Waters stands up.

Waters gets tackled into the cage by Jah. Jah maintains the clinch.
Jah tries to land knees in the clinch but Waters avoids the damage to the body.
Jah is looking to control Waters's arms but Waters gets an underhook and turns him. Now Jah has his back to the cage.

Waters breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Waters throws a sloppy head kick and Jah moves out of range easily.
Jah swats away the attempt to clinch by Waters.

Jah clinches with his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eldar Jah dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Eldar Jah's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Nice straight punches there by Jah. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Jah.
Jah tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Waters swivels and escapes.
Jah swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Jah with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Jah throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jah misses with a straight left.
Waters keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Waters takes a jab right on the kisser.
Waters shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jah pinned against the cage. Jah gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Jah moves into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Waters blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Jah pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Waters takes a jab right on the kisser.
Jah tries to land a leg kick but Waters saw it coming and moves away.

Jah darts in and clinches Waters up against the cage.
Waters lands an elbow that stopped Jah in his tracks for a moment.

Waters breaks the clinch.
Jah swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Waters holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Waters throws a knee to the head but misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jah throws a head punch that misses.

Waters pulls guard successfully.
Jah wants to control from the top but Waters keeps moving.
Waters utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Waters keeping moving, preventing Jah from controlling successfully.
Waters is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Jah missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Jah stops Waters from standing up.
Waters is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Waters avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Jah trying to control but Waters is working from the bottom.
Waters is breathing heavily.
Jah won't allow Waters to get back to his feet.
Jah with a nice head shot there.
Jah looking to pass the guard.
Jah throwing strikes but missing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jah stands and throws Waters's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Jah is chipping away with strikes.

Jah tries for a kimura but Waters is defending well.

Jah goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Waters has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Jah but great work by Waters.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jah tries to improve position but can't.
This has been an exciting period of action!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Jah lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Jah shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Waters as he jumps to the side.
Jah misses with a wild body shot.
A punch combination from Jah misses.
Jah attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Jah throws a jab when Waters was well out of range.
Jah misses with a double jab.
Jah rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Waters moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A slow jab from Jah misses its intended target.
Eldar Jah seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jah blocks a head kick by Waters.
Jah circles away from the clinch attempt.
Jah swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Waters counters with a head kick.
Jah throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Waters counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jah thows a body shot but no joy.
A combination from Jah does no damage.
Waters looks to land a combination but Jah avoids it well.
Jah scores with a hook to the body. Waters takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jah lands with a light punch inside.
Waters has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Jah after a bit of a struggle.
Waters tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Jah throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Waters manages to break the clinch.

Jah drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jah misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Waters wants to get back to his feet.

Jah looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Waters dodges the ground and pound from Jah.
Luke Waters has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jah is looking to take a break and control but Waters is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jah working the strikes but Waters uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Waters blocking the ground and pound attempt from Jah.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jah is trying to control the action in half guard but Waters is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Jah wants to work for an arm triangle but Waters is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Jah is looking for a kimura here.
Eldar Jah overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jah tries to pass the half guard into mount. Waters knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Eldar Jah is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Waters is staying active underneath Jah, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Eldar Jah showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Jah has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
